With a small trill of music, the kind-sounding subway speaker voice announced their impending arrival to their station.
He hated to wake her up, but he was sure missing their stop would be worse.
"Hey, Kir. Come on."
She grumbled sleepily in response.
A wave of cute aggression crashed over his body. He took a deep breath. Gods give me strength.
"Come on, Star," he whispered, nudging her shoulder. "This is us."
She sat up, squinting and blinking wearily, as if he and the light of the car had the nerve to address her.
He reached his hand out, and she took it.
"Up you go... Can't get good beauty sleep in a train car, princess,'
" Hakari loosely teased,
hoisting his duffle she had been resting on over his shoulder. "Let's go.'
She nodded once with her eyes still closed, and he internally patted himself on the back for not having a breakdown over how adorable she was.

was calm. He was always calm. He had an evenness to his tone that only came from navigating too many fraught situations like this.
Hakari fixed Nanami with a look he hoped would garner sympathy. "Please, I just want to talk to her. I need to see that she's okay with my own eyes."
By his side, Hakari flexed his hands. The sting of the fight settled deep in the grooves of his knuckles.
"I'm not telling you again." Nanami replied with finality.
There wasn't anything the man could do but move Hakari along within the remaining two hours he had to vacate the school.
Nanami checked his watch. An hour and fifty minutes now.
If the higher ups showed up, it would get ugly fast. The situation had too many factors, and while Gojo and Yaga were especially sharp and keen under pressure, no one wanted to see this go south. No one wanted to see either kid's life hang in the balance.
Hakari made one last ditch effort to push past Nanami. Nanami shoved him backwards. It wasn't dismissive, it was a shove that said look around you. Get it together.

The nurses office sheets were coarse and without warmth, the way you'd expect sheets to be at a big hospital with lots of patients.
There weren't many people here, but years of accidents and mission related injuries wore out the fabric.
Kirara was past the shock and cries of the moment. She felt like she was in some fugue state, numb and disconnected. She knew where she was, she knew what just happened, and she knew the implications, but it all dangled in time and space.
Was it the calm after the storm? Or before?
Her life had become so chaotic that she felt she didn't know what was up or down.
Would it rain again or would the sun come out behind the clouds? All she could see was a bleak, overcast sky with no end in sight.
The one person that had weathered the storm, weathered it for her or with her, was about to leave.
Kirara blinked slowly, staring blankly at the sheets, as she failed to make sense of that information.
Hakari was leaving.

However, Gojo would be lying if he said he didn't feel closer to how he had felt back
then—so close to snapping and throwing it all away— than he'd been in a long time in this very moment.
