i like the first chart, but i wish the final box representing providers was to scale, indicating what percentage of money payed by consumers actually ends up compensating someone for medical goods or services (and that it broke out self-insured employer-sponsored plans from "private insurance")

the TJPW "introduction to pro wrestling" booklet for children and new fans is a prized possession. not only does it have helpful cartoons with audience etiquette, it also explains the rules of pro wrestling

the actual data on how many matches the AEW women's roster is actually wrestling per-year is pretty terrible. Most women wrestlers experience signing to AEW as a significant reduction in how much they're working per year.

I'm changing it to be marked as a "branch" of GAEA started by Ozaki in 1996/1998, rather than as a "next step" for Ozaki after GAEA ended.

It’s confusing… they’re currently promoting this, which seems to imply 1996?

I've made an updated version of the Joshi promotion historical family tree - it's getting pretty complicated, so I'd appreciate any corrections from the knowledgable people here. #wrestlesky #joshi

i think this is interestingly wrong about insults. the point of an insult is to be hurtful. if you want to make someone feel bad, you pick at their insecurities and things they are ashamed of, whether or not they're wrong. pointing out evil things that they're proud of having done isn't insulting.

currently fiddling with a little app that uses a LLM to make little reading quizzes. it keeps track of when you ask for hints with the vocab (readings/meanings), so it knows which words you sort of know, and uses that to generate passages using vocab that's about 80% familiar

The false choices off ered by spectacular abundance-choices
based on the juxtaposition of competing yet mutually
reinforcing spectacles and of distinct yet interconnected
roles (signified and embodied primarily by objects)develop
into struggles between illusory qualities designed
to generate fervent allegiance to quantitative trivialities.
Fallacious archaic oppositions are revived-regionalisms
and racisms which serve to endow mundane rankings in
the hierarchies of consumption with a magical ontological
superiority-and subplayful enthusiasms are aroused by an
endless succession of farcical competitions, from sports to
elections. Wherever abundant consumption is established,
one particular spectacular opposition is always in the
forefront of illusory roles: the antagonism between youth
and adults. But real adults-people who are masters of their
own lives-are in fact nowhere to be found. And a youthful
transformation of what exists is in no way characteristic of
those who are now young; it is present solely in the economic
system, in the dynamism ofcapitalism. It is things that rule
and that are young, vying with each other and constantly
replacing each other. The image of blissful social unification through consumption
merely postpones the consumer's awareness of the
actual divisions until his next disillusionment with some
particular commodity. Each new product is ceremoniously
acclaimed as a unique creation offering a dramatic shortcut
to the promised land of total consummation. But as with
the fashionable adoption of seemingly aristocratic first
names which end up being given to virtually all individuals
of the same age, the objects that promise uniqueness can be
off ered up for mass consumption only if they are numerous
enough to have been mass-produced. The prestigiousness
of mediocre objects of this kind is solely due to the fact
that they have been placed, however briefly, at the center of
social lif e and hailed as a revelation of the unfathomable
purposes of production. But the object that was prestigious
in the spectacle becomes mundane as soon as it is taken
home by its consumer-at the same time as by all its other
consumers. Too late it reveals its essential poverty, a poverty
that inevitably reflects the poverty of its production.
Meanwhile, some other object is already replacing it as
justification of the system and demanding its own moment
of acclaim.

been musing about a grand unified theory of the extended decline of the USA as predicted by the revision of the lyrics of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in 1957
In 1957, when Frank Sinatra approached Martin to record the song, he asked him to revise the lyrics to promote a more uplifting theme; he particularly criticised the lyric "until then we'll have to muddle through somehow," commenting "the name of my album is A Jolly Christmas. Do you think you could jolly up that line for me?" Martin's revised lyric was "hang a shining star upon the highest bough." Martin made several other alterations, changing from the future tense to the present, so that the song's focus is a celebration of present happiness rather than anticipation of a better future.(However, Sinatra had recorded the original song's lyrics in 1948.) On The Judy Garland Show Christmas Special, Garland sang the song to her children Joey and Lorna Luft with Sinatra's revised lyrics.
