These metrics can't be direct ranking factor. We contacted @tunetheweb.com with major anomalies, our homepage has zero ads yet the metrics measure 2-6 ads. He found that our user initiated search function is flagged as a major false positive site-wide. He was amazing and added "experimental" labels.

Final report @rustybrick.com. The thumb bug 🐛 is fully cleared up and all other recipe sites that pinged me have reconfirmed. Our GSC reports (2 recipes attached) show things clearing up last weekend. This isn't an insignificant amount of traffic. Can't thank you and the team enough @johnmu.com 🙏

Thanks again for flagging the team @johnmu.com & for covering @rustybrick.com 🙏 We and other sites can now confirm huge GSC traffic gains that aren't just seasonal. The thumbnail is showing up more & correctly! This is going to have major measurable impacts for lots of recipe sites. Thank you John!

Thank you so much @johnmu.com🙏 Something major just changed. The stuck thumb bug 🐛 cleared up for all of the recipe carousel thumbs that were stuck for weeks we were tracking. Two are attached. I’m going to check with the other food sites that pinged me. Did the team push a fix? cc @rustybrick.com

Just heard from other food sites also seeing this bug since late August. The recipe carousel image gets “stuck” & won’t update. This isn’t an auto thumb selection issue. To help the team, just removed the photo that looked similar to the “stuck”carousel image to help remove any confusion. Thanks 🙏

There is a tall vertical image that looks similar that we left on the page but the pan handle is the giveaway the image is different. Here they are side by side for the team to see. We are giving the bowl image w/ ice cream via JSON-LD, in the article, and removed the other image. Thank you! 🙏 (2/2)

Really appreciate it John!🙏 Our main concern is the recipe gallery image specifically. We know the other thumbs can be more auto chosen & cropped. It is strange that the Google recipe gallery image (below) was removed from the page entirely yet it is still chosen as the recipe gallery image. (1/2)

The web is not thriving. We just warned you about this at the recent NYC publisher meetup. Publishers are in complete panic and many are going out of business. We need incentive to create. There isn’t any reason why a recipe publisher would want to optimize to be in this zero click AIO interface.
