i would totally recommend any of these albums esp all the Radiohead ones, HYPERYOUTH (alt rap), Preacher's Daughter (alt), The Forever Story (rap), and Songs In A Minor (R&B/Soul)

it's tiiime... for Spotify Wrapped again but with an Apple Music Replay twist this year i stuck with AM after switching but clearly Radiohead were on loop on both platforms the entire year. Durand Bernarr, Melanie Fiona and Gotye (listen to Making Mirrors) also had their moments 1/2

that didn't take long 😂 luckily i joined on the cut-off month, now i'm curious how the Pocket Casts team came up with September 2019 as the cut-off

App Store screenshot for Pocket Casts version 7.98 with the description, "We've always believed podcasting should remain open, accessible, and creator-owned. In a world dominated by closed platforms, we're committed to supporting the open RSS ecosystem. To help sustain that mission, this release re-introduces banner ads to support our ongoing work. Banner ads won't be shown to Plus or Patron subscribers or users who created a Pocket Casts account prior to September 2019 - thank you for your support.
This update also brings a smoother start for new users with improved account creation during onboarding with User Stories, Interests, and Recommendations.
We've fixed an issue where the You Might Like tab would reload when returning to it.
Navigation should now feel smoother and more consistent.
The About screen now displays the correct background color across all themes."

If Beale Street Could Talk is my second James Baldwin book and he's quickly becoming one of my favourite authors took me a bit too long to read, but I believe this is one of those books that deserves to be savoured rather than rushed through in a few hours. i highly recommend it #BookSky

Image with the cover of If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin and it's review (Liked It):

This effectively captures race in 70s America and its impact on the justice system, framing it through a passionate and tender love story between two young Black individuals. I wholeheartedly understand why this was adapted into a movie — Baldwin’s writing is both blunt and grand. You feel the desperation, hope, and anger with every page.

On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous started off so well and I wanted to like it so much but personally it might have been the weaving of stories that detracts from the book I found it a bit difficult to keep up at times but, perhaps, I will appreciate this technical aspect in a diff sitting #BookSky

On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong review:

This is a lyrically written letter where different ideas and stories meander together from the POV of a young Vietnamese boy in America. This is addressed to his mother covering topics around race, queer identity, language and more.

At times it felt like it was trying to be greater and more profound but it covers the different themes beautifully.

Grotesquerie started off really well but in the end I don’t think this should be up on someone’s watchlist

review: “it takes some special kind of madness to write a mystery show but not have some closure. despite that, it was all downhill from around E04 but more so from E07. this just dragged out.

gotta give Niecy Nash her flowers though”

this is such an amazing and unique book. I Who Have Never Known Men would also be a good contender for a limited series or film #BookSky

image showing i liked I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman, it's book cover and my review: "for such a short book, this packs quite a punch. the characters were well written, the story is unique and despairing in a dystopian desolate world where our main character alongside 39 other women are the last humans standing. we get glimpses of hope but this is quickly dashed every time right till the final traumatising sentence"

realised i forgot to share this Michelle uses Korean food and culture in Crying in H Mart to describe the difficult relationship she had with her mum as a kid and how it transitioned before her death as well as the longing after #BookSky

image showing i liked Michelle Zauner's Crying in H Mart, the book cover, and my review: 'be prepared for a lot of food descriptions, a bit too much for me, but this reads like something Michelle wrote for herself and other people in the same situation following the loss of a parent.

overall, this is a cathartic and heartwarming memoir'

idk how but somehow Percival Everett managed to make me finish James in under a day, and it's not a short book #BookSky

image showing i loved Percival Everett's James, the book cover, and my review: "i don’t think i can describe this book and do it justice. the facts are that never have i ever finished a book this fast and it’s the easiest 5 star i’ve ever awarded.

it totally deserves all the accolades and praise it’s getting and everyone should read it"

The Vanishing Half would make an amazing limited series it was very easy to connect with every character and deeply love and hate them at the same time more so with how Brit played with time. i feel like i want to be as cool and mysterious as Reese when i grow up 😂

image showing i loved The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, it's book cover and the review:

this is an impeccably wonderful story on struggling with identity while also being a cautionary tale on living a lie

it is beautiful yet sad following twin sisters then their daughters from different perspectives. it covers racism, domestic abuse, motherhood, friendship and so much more
