One of the unexpectedly bad parts about being out and about alone? Not having someone else who can confirm if you locked the car. #anxiety

So. Somehow between looking for an ATM & getting a flu shot, I think I sold a copy of my book & got a pharmacist willing to give free flu shots to the unhoused communities served by the churches in my conference. On accident. This is what happens when I leave the house, I guess.

#WeeknightWriters Q5: Maybe remind me that things don't have to be perfect & I might not suck as a writer? (I mean, I still may very well suck, that's always a possibility, but the fact that I might not suck would be good to remember, too.)

#WeeknightWriters Q4: Once again, sleep would be fabulous. A friend's wedding is on Saturday, which should be fun & will mean that I have to be finished with her wedding present by then & can move on to a different craft project (finally!).

#WeeknightWriters Q3: That's a really good question & I don't know that I have an answer this week. "Joy" is an awfully strong word. A nice cup of tea or two have brought comfort - that's gotta count for something.

#WeeknightWriters Q2: Some feedback from a friend about my WIP has me questioning if I should continue writing it, as everything I'd been excited about is apparently not interesting or it doesn't make sense. I'm not sure if it's worth continuing.

#WeeknightWriters Q1: Ha. Ha ha. Ha ha ha. Family health stuff leading to planning travel (apparently I'm the family travel agent) & realizing my pick for book club this week was maybe not the best & spikes in pain & feedback on the WIP making me want to trunk it & & & yeah. This week's been hard.

Running late due to book club this week, but hi! I'm Stephanie Wood Franklin (she/her), the current WIP is codenamed Voltaire & is "working through religious trauma with archeology & magic" (though that's...in flux). This week's been hard. #WeeknightWriters

Ways to help authors you love: - Review their books. - Share their posts. - Tell people about their books. - Learn the true name of the universe and manipulate it to make their book a bestseller. - Get your library to order in their books. - Ask local events to book them for appearances.

#WeeknightWriters Q2: Specifically, nothing I can put my finger on. There's been the chronic pain, but that's, y'know, chronic. I have some issues with keeping up the house, which is an on-going issue that occasionally flares into being a Problem.

WRITER ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED: Someone I don't know has not only read my book, but they've rated it on Goodreads. They gave it 4 stars, which feels better than the 5 stars my friend gave it because this reader doesn't have to be nice to me.

The book I was reading had an open parenthesis, and nothing to close it. I had to find the close to that clause, so I started reading between the lines, searching for that final bit of closure. The closer I looked, the further into the clause I got, and the further I fell into the Rifts until

Hello all! The Infinite Library is available on Amazon (a.co/d/0clRniWt) & Kobo (bit.ly/4vLvEDD). It's a fantasy about a library that contains all the narrative in human history that is currently under attack & the cross-genre group of fictional characters out to save it. #WriterShareWednesday

I find myself intrigued by this. I did NaNoWriMo for 15(?!?) years, I think, and I got so many words that turned into something useful from it. I've definitely felt the loss & have been at loose ends looking for something to fill the gap.

#Septversary Day 6: Passionate about work POV is a grad student in anthropology. He's more passionate about not having to get a real job than anything else. MC is an anthropologist passionate about making a name for himself & lasting "glory." He doesn't care so much how he does it.

Stephanie Wood Franklin @insertscenehere.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
#Septversary Day 5: Asking for Help POV needs help & would love to ask for it, but he's afraid of being caught by his advisor (MC). MC isn't asking for help, he's demanding your assistance & no, you don't have a choice. The goddess only helps those who help themselves (& her) - it's up to you.

#Septversary Day 4: Empathy Most empathetic is POV - he's a grad student who's being pushed into his advisor's plan to create a new religion & honestly believes some good may come of it. Least empathetic is probably the goddess who wants to know who broke her world while she was asleep.

#WeeknightWriters A4: Next week Sleeping a little more would probably be good. Also drinking more tea. When in doubt, sleep, tea, and cats, and my cats have been doing a good job of making their presence known (see QWERTY below).
A white and brown tabby curls up asleep with one back foot near his face. His pink and brown toepads are visible by his pink nose.

#WeeknightWriters A3: Joy! I've gotten some lovely affirmations at the day job that my work is seen and appreciated, and as a lifelong admin, this is rare and valuable. Also it's been raining lately, and as a delicate Pacific Northwest flower, this is the weather I crave.

#WeeknightWriters A2: Specific struggles In an effort to be seen by a headache clinic, I've not been taking my prescription pain meds for more than a week. Lately it's been all triggers all the time and just hoping it'll be worth it in the end.

#WeeknightWriters A1: How am I holding up? Simultaneously too tightly and not strong enough. For other Xennials, remember those tubes of glittery water that would squirt out of your hand if you didn't hold it with just the right amount of tension? Like that. It's been a week/month/year/decade.
A Caucasian hand holds a plastic tube filled with blue glittery gel. The fingers are barely wrapped around the tube.

#Septversary Day 3: Collaboration One MC is good at getting people to do what he wants, which isn't so much collaborating as manipulating, but he sees it as the same thing. The other characters would love to "collaborate" that MC into a quiet room to get him to knock it off already.

Stephanie Wood Franklin @insertscenehere.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
#Septversary Day 2: Being Myself (a day late) My narrator character would love to be fully himself, but that would involve telling his advisor that he's terrified of the whole plan & he'd really like to go back to his thesis now instead of accidentally leading a religion, please & thank you.

Stephanie Wood Franklin @insertscenehere.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
#Septversary Day 1: Community One MC uses the power of belief from tens of thousands of people to become something he's not and accidentally wake up a goddess, so yeah, community's a big deal. Also the action happens ~50 years after a plague shows people to connect for survival.

Hrm. I'm a little extra-cranky. It's almost 11am, did I take my morning meds? Oh. Y'know what helps in taking meds? Actually filling my pill box for the week. *sigh* And as I have been reminded, so shall I remind you: have you taken your meds?

Dear smokers: if, upon lighting up, you hear someone coughing violently in your vicinity, it would be awesome if you could spot that person & try to move downwind of them at the very least. Standing in place, staring at them, & blowing smoke rings? Not so cool. Sincerely, *hackcoughwheeze*

Similarly, though less sticky, QWERTY found my pill box and knocked it open, scattering pain, sleep, & anxiety meds on the floor yesterday morning. After accounting for almost* all of them, I spent most of the day reminding him that he would make a lovely pair of mittens.
