Greetings from Thedas:
Up on a balcony, a Talon scowls and a Talon smiles and each is a warning sign. Their eyes catch on something only they can see; a sip of wine and kiss to a cheek and a Talon slips away to ply her trade. Below, the band plays on, a tune for the assassins in the shadows, a song for the House that always wins.

Forget counting cards-- count the Crows, and you might yet escape the night with your life.

Greetings From Thedas: 2027 Contributor Preview

She sends her magic out, vines over stone over dirt, smoothing the roughshod foundation upon which the Wardens have staked their claim. Never once did she imagine herself here, surrounded by shemlen walls that block the breeze. Cold grays instead of warm greens, earthy browns instead of bright reds.

Vigil’s Keep is far from a clutch of aravels. Its roots reach back through soil and stone and time; beyond the Wardens and past the Howes, to the Avvar who placed stone upon brick upon faith. Grounded and permanent, as the wheels and wind and wandering of her childhood never could be.

It does not suffocate, as it should.

and because I don't think I ever shared them here: my fics from the calendar! for April (Cassandra) and July (Lucanis) 💜 #DragonAge #DragonAgeAnnual

Too often, she wonders if she made the right choice. If she made any of the right choices. Does she defend the Maker's light better with a big hat than a blade? Does her counsel serve the people better than her shield? Is her heart, too often foolish and full of folly, suited to offer forgiveness?

Will it be offered to her, in turn? When the Maker calls her home, will her intentions matter more than the Seekers she left scattered to the wind?

There are no answers on her knees. But when she stands, and lifts her hand to douse the candle, she sees: a sword to pierce the sun.

"They're ready for you, Most Holy."

She exhales a breath that she's held for an Age. Answers are, as always, in short supply. Today, though, she must be the answer. Bearer of the Maker's trust, a vessel to carry His will to open hearts and listening ears.

Let chaos be undone.

Notes:
You are a church of broken glass and hallelujahs
You are haunted like every other holy thing
What tried to destroy you didn't have the strength
Still you stand
Sturdy and smelling of smoke
-Little Bird, Clementine von Radics

Family. He is a boy, cane-bitten and bloody. All that remains is Caterina, the steel in her eyes, the set of her jaw, and the seat of First Talon. And Illario. If nothing else, he has Illario.

Enemies. He no longer has Illario. Betrayal stings like an adder's kiss, and the call for revenge echoes through his head in a voice that is not his own. Caterina raises her glass-to him, ostensibly-but her pretty words and platitudes are more bitter than the wine. They land, permanent and painful, like chains about his neck.

Contracts. Her blighted blood lingers on his dagger long after he wipes it away. But he will have it again. Spite's hand wraps around his- Spite's hand is his, on the hilt of a blade that sings. A body falls, tentacles rescind; assassin and demon draw a singular breath.

Whatever it takes.

Notes:
blood is blood
and what's done is done
blood is blood
and its burden is a beast

I've been lucky enough to join the talented folks at @worldofthedaszine.bsky.social as one of their writers for the Anderfels/Grey Warden section! Here's a sneak peek of some of the pieces I'm working on 👀 #DragonAge #zine #fanfic

I must warn you that the Wardens and I parted on less than amicable terms. Isseya’s gift of returning the griffons came with strings—ones that the First Warden was quick to ignore, in favor of his ego and delusions of grandeur. Whatever use my information may be of to you, or to those who seek the safe return of the griffons, I will give it only if they are truly willing to listen.

Isseya trusted her legacy to me—not just the griffons, but the reminder that the Wardens betrayed them. That this is an improbable, precious second chance, and there will not be a third. The people in Hossberg speak well of you and your partner, but if your allies are unwilling to face the mistakes of Wardens past, there is nothing I can do to help you, or them.

A letter, dated 9:52 Dragon, from the elven mage Valya to Field Commander Evka Ivo

However, the farmers who raise the pigs and collect the truffles rarely occupy the same social standing as the patrons who enjoy the fruit of their labors. Truffles are largely harvested in small patches; enough to consistently maintain a meager living, but nothing beyond that. This leaves many farmers dreaming of the pig who will stumble across a rare cache of truffles large enough that they could elevate their status with the profits.

Rumors out of Hossberg suggest that the dish is sometimes made with gingerwort truffles and served at the King’s most exclusive events; officially, the palace chef advises against this practice.

Previously, nations across Thedas found themselves caught up in the relief of a Blight ending— no one thought to question where the dragons vanished to. Though, one might perhaps wonder that the Fereldens did not notice whatever means the Wardens used to transfer such a large corpse from the top of Fort Drakon across the continent to Hossberg.

Discovery of the The Cauldron raises many questions: why did the Wardens need to keep all of the corpses? Were they trophies, or for study? Certainly it was not just for the blood, as a single corpse must hold enough blood for all Joinings into eternity. Perhaps which archdemon the blood was drawn from had some significance, or perhaps the makeup of the blood was altered with time, but given the fate of Weisshaupt and the devastation of the Order, it is likely that these questions will never be answered.
