Illustration depicts an embalming performed by Myrna and Vorgoth under the supervision of a spirit wearing a large, jeweled headdress. The body on the embalming table is shrouded in cloth that wraps around its face, across its shoulder, and around its hips (dignity matters). Half of the body is shown as cleaned bones, which Myrna is lovingly adorning with gold jewelry. The other half is shown as musculature. Vorgoth has his left hand resting on the abdomen, and has his ceremonial knife raised in his right. There's a green light that is glowing from within the rib cage of the embalmed, that can also be seen in the eyes, shining through the shroud. The figures are lit by an auditorium of large candles that encircle them. Canopic jars dot the ground beneath the table - which has beetle-like legs and horned appendages.

A note on spirit cats

When I was passing through the spirit market on last week’s courier run, I spotted a new rune carved on the wall. When I touched the carving, it conjured a memory of some professorial looking folks in a heated debate.

“We can't yet prove for certain that what Gallus witnessed was in fact the spirit of cat, a spirit manifesting in the shape of a cat, or an enchantment cast by one of those spirits because they thought they ought to have cats like we of the material world—but this is going to reopen that whole metaphysical and theological debate on whether or not animals have souls again. Please don't go telling your children that the spirit of their beloved deceased kitten is living in the Crossroads just yet. We don't need that kind of chaos!”

I'm SO excited that the @worldofthedaszine.bsky.social project is almost ready to share with everyone!~ The whole book is fantastic! I'm still amazed I got to be one of the contributors. This letter is one of the pieces I wrote: "Found on a desk among Morrigan’s many notes and correspondences..."

A letter written on textured paper that reads:

‘Tis wild, isn’t it? How fast things can change…

I still remember how drear and gloamy the Crossroads looked when I was a child, filled with heavy fog and heavier silence. Now, it feels like spring has come along and stirred the whole place out of the deep hibernation it was in. The fog has lifted and been replaced with splashes of color and brilliance I’ve never seen whilst awake—except in the finest Serault glass, when the light streams though it just so.

Here, now, the whole sky could be cut from the finest wares that the Glassworks ever made. I swear! When the elves said they could see all the colors in the Crossroads, I always wished I could see as they did—but today, I think, perhaps, I caught a glimpse of their view.

I should ask Strife and Irelin about it! Do things look different to them, too? Or am I just sensitive to the surges of strange, potent magic that have been happening more frequently of late…?

‘Tis marvelous to witness! The way water often spirals skyward here, sometimes taking fish to swim amongst the clouds, or how the earth can be shaped into stairs and bridges in a matter of seconds. It certainly seems to take much less time to traverse the world of late.

Is that the work of the Caretaker spirits? I have so many questions for them, too, but they never seem to give me a straight answer. (Reminds me of someone else I know, actually...)

By the way, I tracked down what you were looking for! I will bring it back to the Veil Jumpers’ camp as soon as I finish exploring these ruins. ‘Twould be a shame to rush and miss some crucial detail.

excerpt from Brother Genitivi’s Travels of a Chantry Scholar about Antivan festival foods: “One of the most common fares are, of course, little breads and pastries meant to be taken with a cup of fine coffee. Particularly, little spiced cookies tasting of ginger and cinnamon, and cut into the shapes of crows; these are appropriately referred to as “cornejitas” which means “little crow” in Antivan. Another notable mention is a sweet bread covered in streusel that cracks in the oven and gives the appearance of a shell. I’m told that these are most popular in northern and coastal Antiva, and the recipe is originally of Rivaini make.”

I must warn you that the Wardens and I parted on less than amicable terms. Isseya’s gift of returning the griffons came with strings—ones that the First Warden was quick to ignore, in favor of his ego and delusions of grandeur. Whatever use my information may be of to you, or to those who seek the safe return of the griffons, I will give it only if they are truly willing to listen.

Isseya trusted her legacy to me—not just the griffons, but the reminder that the Wardens betrayed them. That this is an improbable, precious second chance, and there will not be a third. The people in Hossberg speak well of you and your partner, but if your allies are unwilling to face the mistakes of Wardens past, there is nothing I can do to help you, or them.

However, the farmers who raise the pigs and collect the truffles rarely occupy the same social standing as the patrons who enjoy the fruit of their labors. Truffles are largely harvested in small patches; enough to consistently maintain a meager living, but nothing beyond that. This leaves many farmers dreaming of the pig who will stumble across a rare cache of truffles large enough that they could elevate their status with the profits.

Rumors out of Hossberg suggest that the dish is sometimes made with gingerwort truffles and served at the King’s most exclusive events; officially, the palace chef advises against this practice.

Previously, nations across Thedas found themselves caught up in the relief of a Blight ending— no one thought to question where the dragons vanished to. Though, one might perhaps wonder that the Fereldens did not notice whatever means the Wardens used to transfer such a large corpse from the top of Fort Drakon across the continent to Hossberg.

Discovery of the The Cauldron raises many questions: why did the Wardens need to keep all of the corpses? Were they trophies, or for study? Certainly it was not just for the blood, as a single corpse must hold enough blood for all Joinings into eternity. Perhaps which archdemon the blood was drawn from had some significance, or perhaps the makeup of the blood was altered with time, but given the fate of Weisshaupt and the devastation of the Order, it is likely that these questions will never be answered.

These are the only words you need to know in Tevene. Everyone in Tevinter speaks Trade anyway. If you don’t know how to say it, ask me after evening rites and I’ll say it for you.
Fasta vass: Fuck everything.
Festis bei umo canavarum: I’m fucked. (This one’s supposed to be something about being eaten by a female dog, but that’s not what it means if you say it.)
Incaensor: What you call someone who is behaving badly or acting above their station. (If your slave turns out to be able to do magic, that’s the word for it. Or your servant or whatever you have in Nevarra instead of slaves.)
Kaffas: Shit.
Vishante kaffas: Someone at my old Circle said it means “you shit on my tongue,” but it makes more sense the other way around so that’s how I say it.
Rattus: Means rat, I think. People mostly use it for elves, but you can say it about anyone who’s far enough below you.
Venhedis: Go to the Void. Careful, there’s this elven word that’s almost the same, but I don’t know what it means. So I guess don’t say this one if you’re talking to an elf. Or else just don’t talk to elves, I suppose.
Venhedis kaffan vas: I’m not telling you. Only I can say this one.
