Growing revenue has also helped newsrooms invest in their teams. As NewsMatch participants expanded their budgets through fundraising and other revenue-generating efforts, they were able to hire more people and strengthen their capacity to serve their communities.

In August, wildfires hit Washington and Nevada, there was flooding in Illinois and a derecho tore through Indiana. To support news organizations covering natural disasters, INN and Google News Initiative awarded 23 independent newsrooms $10,000 each in unrestricted funds. inn.org/news/disaste...
