“M!” was our son’s first letter. Those high-reader signs on the highway were always cause for great excitement, and occasionally were occasions of joy.

When I was a child, I could not enjoy LEGO as there were never enough pieces with which to successfully coordinate form with color. This was agony when I was six. Agony. I must have been a joy.

23 Skids—my local, my thirdspace, my caffeine connect—has closed, as if to ease my passage into the next world. The next dispensation. To Portland, then. Surely there some where will be brotherhood and good coffee. I will bindlestiffit from place to place until I find at last another decent cortado.

My beloved local coffee shop 23 Skiddoo has closed. I went every day, much in the way that many old women might go to Mass every morning. It’s as if my priest has passed.

TFW you can’t *quite* get use-permission
DeJarnatt’s use of the Cliff’s Notes cover for Gravity’s Rainbow rather than that of the actual book kinda makes sense in context, one supposes. But I’m sure being cornered this way sent him to the tavern for an evening. What he must have wanted was the Viking edition with the airburst image. The Cliff’s Notes looks a little Max Headroom

The yellow light was weird. The air was close, and its aroma—scented wax?—weird. The building, a stunner. Desenfans flanked himself with grateful widowwomen set to praying for him. What had he thought he’d done? With the picture galleries as the approach, and the spirit doors in three directions

The essays published in Rewriting Alberti are rather wonderful. It’s like watching four figure-skaters warming up on the ice.

Seated on a plane, erasing Eisenman’s “Rewriting [of] Alberti.” *Was* he rewriting Alberti? Or was Mr. E just tagging his buildings? Black spray paint, red spray paint, silver…. Actually I quite enjoy watching parsonical Eisenman skate the space between Alberti’s written ideas and achieved buildings

Visited in 2025. Subsequent reading had it that owners sent Lethaby home ‘cause they thot they shouldn’t need him or pay for him. So: owner had “site guy” increase height/mass of crossing tower and foundation failed. Lethaby was made to pay for repairs. Hence his and the Mrs.’s despair, lights out??

The best way to initiate the demolition of a modernist building on the cheap is to stop maintaining a flat roof that has internal drains. This time-honored developers’ tactic is called “Demolition by Neglect.”
