During this time, I explored diverse aspects of immunology: From the role of the neonatal Fc receptor in viral infections during my Bachelor's thesis to the phenotypic and functional characterization of monocyte subsets in tumor pathogenesis in my Master's thesis.

What did I do before? I studied Medical Biology at the University of Duisburg-Essen while working as a student research assistant in the Lab of Prof. Karl Lang at the Institute of Immunology.

What am I working on? My PhD focuses on immune evasion in brain metastases. Using single-cell, spatial, and computational approaches, I aim to understand how metastatic tumors escape immune surveillance and how the brain microenvironment shapes anti-tumor immune responses.

Meet our team: Hi! I’m Julia :) I'm a PhD student in the Ingelfinger Lab, which I joined in May 2026. What drew me here was the exciting research project, the collaborative environment, and the opportunity to explore state-of-the-art technologies in cancer immunology.

During COVID-19, some patients developed Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS), an immune-mediated nerve disorder. In this project led by Can Ulutekin we identified a distinct COVID-related immune signature. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Proteomic analysis reveals divergent inflammatory mechanisms of COVID-associated Guillain-Barré syndrome - Journal of Molecular Medicine
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an acute immune-mediated neuropathy triggered by infections, with poorly understood pathophysiological diversity. COVID-19-associated GBS (COVID-GBS) is a rare but sev...
