One of my workout goals is to bike/run/walk every street in Hermiston. Built a simple tracker for this this morning. Didn't realize I'm close to 30% already.

@zolotkey You could process data from Open-Meteo (which doesn't have our model) but here's the 30-day animation from our work model, frames every 12 hours. To help make sense of it, I recommend picking a single strong ridge or trough and watch how that progresses through the period.

@zolotkey Expanding on this, here's a map of our current state. I estimated the jet stream roughly in pink and marked ridges and troughs as red and blue. Each ridge-trough pair is a wave, I count about five waves in the Northern Hemisphere right now.

Now that I work at a #weather model (and balloon) company I suppose it's time for me to start learning about weather modeling. I'm spinning up a version of MPAS to run some experiments but first I'm playing with dummy data to get the hang of it and orient myself.

You can really tell when I a) resized the droplet to have 2 CPUs instead of one and b) when I switched the basemaps to being cached vs being made fresh each run. Looks like I have a bit of room to keep adding stuff when I get back home from California.
