Content designers know that naming things is hard. — The only thing harder is renaming them later.

In #ContentDesign, context is everything. Knowing where UI copy will appear and how it will be treated there is an essential #UXWriting skill. The same emphasized string renders fine in the heading, but not on button labels. Consistency is good, but some cases require contextual variants.

Give 'em The Atlantic The UI copy glitch on the button label @theatlantic.com this morning almost looks intentional. Let 'em have it.
UI copy error on The Atlantic app‘s button label showing visible HTML emphasis tags instead of formatted text, so it appears to read ”Give em The Atlantic“

I’ve seen this up close. Leadership vacuums can hamstring even the most capable design teams. Look for leaders that know what you do, and how to create the conditions for design diligence and content craft to flourish.

The opportunity to work with people who care is precious, and learning from one another is what allows us to deliver work we believe in. New projects are calling, but good connections will endure. This is not goodbye.

@elijahpotter.dev Just learned that Harper supports custom rules via Weir, is that new? Don’t recall seeing that last time I looked at Harper. So far, I’ve been building those with vale.sh, but having them in Harper seems much more convenient. writewithharper.com/docs/weir

The track record for acquihires is spotty at best, but this case seems to be going well. They bought it back in 2024, and @elijahpotter.dev has been putting a lot of thought and effort into it lately with a new desktop app and a laudable mission: elijahpotter.dev/articles/we_...

I’ve been working on something quietly for a while. Today it steps into the open. It’s called Faro, a space where I’m sharing ideas that shaped my work across brand, design, content, engineering, and systems thinking.

Naming things is hard, but you’ve nailed it with Faro. You’re building a beacon that illuminates the contours of the cliffs we sail around these days. Looking forward to seeing where you shine the light next, and following along as the fog clears.

It’s ironic that words like „Nutzendenzentriert“ will instantly tank the score when you’re trying to be user-centered. The intersection of readability and inclusive language is unfortunately particularly fraught in German.

Yeah, I went with Font Awesome’s solid `cloud` but if you’re using Bootstrap Icons, there are several variants that could work, like `clouds`: icons.getbootstrap.com?q=cloud

Been wondering the same lately. 🤔 I don’t think there’s anything official, but until there is, some variant with clouds may have to do. With a label for accessibility, it should be clear enough.

🤩 I love my clients. Last month I ran a #ContentOperations workshop where we focused on #UXwriting and #ContentDesign processes. They made an album cover and put up a disco ball in the office. 🪩 If you’re still copying and pasting strings, get in touch. Happy to teach your team a few new moves. 🕺
