UMSI professor Sile O’Modhrain’s work touches music, computing and artificial intelligence. Her research, teaching and entrepreneurship are guided by one central question: How can we make complex information accessible in meaningful ways? Read about her work: myumi.ch/d8N86
Professor of Information Sile O’Modhrain uses the Codex, a refreshable braille display, to edit audio in a studio at the U-M School of Music, Theater and Dance. The device, a first of its kind, provides a large-area tactile braille “screen” with a touch pad, enabling digital interaction using the sense of touch. The projector screen is visualizing the current state of the braille display, and represents braille as green dots and touch interactions as larger red dots. Sile touches an audio waveform and time code within the audio editing software and uses control keys on the device to make edits. (Photos by Jeffrey M. Smith)
