Super news for #NewMexico: HB40, Driver Privacy and Safety Act headed for @govmlg.bsky.social signature. Important protection against "Big Brother"-style sharing of New Mexico license plate camera data with out-of-state officials. enewmexican.pressreader.com/article/6854...
License plate data protections: A proposal to curb what proponents have described as "Big Brother"-style sharing of New Mexico license plate camera data with out-of-state officials passed the House and heads to the governor's desk.
Senate Bill 40, the Driver Privacy and Safety Act, would require any out-of-state entities seeking that data to first pledge they won't use it to enforce federal immigration laws, police "pro-tected health care activity" like abortions or gender-affirming care or to investigate people participating in constitutionally protected activities. The measure passed the House 44-22
Tuesday afternoon.

Call @heinrich.senate.gov @lujan.senate.gov, tell them to stand firm against the SAVE Act. It is especially bad for #NewMexico, where many do not have a passport, one of only ways voters can prove citizenship per the Act’s rules. www.ms.now/opinion/save...
Map from article linked in post, showing that only roughly 30 to 40 percent of New Mexican citizen residents have passports.

‼️#NMLeg2026 HB 9, Immigrant Safety Act, voted out of House Judiciary Committee. Important, good amendment added: prevents state and local law enforcement from cooperating with feds on civil immigration enforcement.
The Immigrant Safety Act has passed the House Judiciary committee with a vote count of 7-4.
The committee amended the bill adding cntical new protections that prohibit state and local governments in New Mexico trom entering into 287(a) agreements
with ICE
New Mexico nas proven once again, we are not powerless againstice and their innumane treatment of our immigrant communities.
It will now be heading to the House Floor.
Follow to stay informed on how you can support HB9!

DRIVER PRIVACY AND SAFETY ACT - RULED GERMANE AND ASSIGNED TO SENATE TAX
Driver Privacy and Safety Act - SB 40 - Because New Mexico has no limits on ALPR (Automatic License Plate Recognition) use, the data can be accessed broadly by outside agencies, including ICE. The most prominent seller of ALPR cameras, Flock, allows police departments to make the data from their plate readers available to other departments across the country in what amounts to a giant nationwide warrantless surveillance infrastructure. The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Peter Wirth and Rep. Christine Chandler of Los Alamos, would restrict out-of-state agencies from conducting searches related to immigration, investigations into legal and "protected health care activity" in the state, and pursuits of a person based on participation in constitutionally protected activity.
ACT: Email committee members and your Representatives and ask them to vote YES to pass the Driver
Privacy and Safety Act.

IMMIGRANTS ARE US
THE IMMIGRANT SAFETY ACT SCHEDULED IN HOUSE JUDICIARY TODAY AT 1:30PM|
Immigrant Safety Act - HB 9 - There have been multiple deaths and other serious abuses in immigrant detention centers in New Mexico in recent years, with a rapid deterioration in due process and violations under the current federal administration's mass deportation agenda during both apprehensions and detentions. The Immigrant Safety Act will ensure New Mexico's public bodies do not enter into agreements to voluntarily apprehend or detain community members for federal civil immigration enforcement. The Immigrant Safety Act is a critical step to protect New Mexican families by closing existing gaps in state law and prohibiting new detention contracts by public entities. Unfortunately private companies could still contract with federal immigration enforcement agencies.
TODAY: Email committee members and your Representatives and ask them to vote Yes to pass the
Immigrant Safety Act.

MINNESOTA
Minnesota heard the whispering of years, The dreams that sent men wandering, and far;
It knew the rugged tread of pioneers Who felt the bright lure of the western star.
Unfolding like an answer to their prayer, Here flowed a stream that, struggling toward its goal,
Gained strength, though rapids spread a foaming snare,
And reached its haven, beyond tide and shoal.

MOONRISE OVER SUPERIOR
Only quiet starlight showed
Cars bordered on the lake-shore road.
For each one, as it parked, would close Its headlight eyes and seem to doze Until the moon's thin edge would pull A tide of homage. To the full, The watchers saw it grow and make, Across the dark terrain of lake, A gold path for a heaven-set tiller.
Like an arc light on a pillar-Inquisitive, it peered around Betore up-surging with a bound Into the sky, where it could pour Benediction on the shore.

MEMORIES FROM A FOXHOLE
I miss the beauty of the rainbow trail, That autumn paints over hill and dale;
I miss the geese honking overhead And the mallards in the wild rice-bed.
I want the thrill of seeing the deer With head erect to point his fear, Or to follow the rabbit's track in the snow And to hear his thump as he signals, "Go!" I want the roar as the lake freezes tight While I stand and wait for the fish to bite.
I have not forgotten in all this strife
How once there was quiet beautiful life....
I would give a lot to be back there
Where God has a hand and seems to care - But I have memories... deep inside, Where I look, and try to be satisfied.
