When we stockpile early votes, we are protecting the election. The more early votes are cast and counted, the harder it is to sabotage the election. That means that this year, all supervoters (those who vote in every election) have a special superpower: moving their vote to the first day they can cast it!  Reach out to all your supervoter friends and family, and ask them to vote early!

by Ram N. Overview: This blog post discusses the limitations of our 2-party system of government; a campaign for proportional representation, driven by ProRep Coalition; and insights from IEB’s Nancy Latham about ProRep’s recent Democracy Reform Town Hall in Oakland. If you’re a Democrat in California, you’re probably used to your party winning most of the races—at least that has been the case for the past couple of decades.

by Carol D. Who gets educated—and who gets to decide what education looks like? Those questions reach far beyond college campuses. They shape what students are taught, what professors are free to teach and research, whether topics like women’s health are studied, how doctors, lawyers, and teachers are trained, and whose voices are heard in the classroom. It underlies how voters vote.

by Jess Beebe & Gwen Rino Do you remember how you felt waking up on November 6, 2024? We do. We were horrified by the outcome of the election and felt despair at what lay ahead. Trump’s first term had been bad enough, and we sensed that this one would be far worse. We hosted a get-together the next day, at which a dozen neighbors tried to console each other.

by Susan N. With the midterms fast approaching, it's critical to get corporations to take a stand against the Trump regime. That's why a coalition of organizations from Bay Resistance (including Indivisible East Bay) has organized a Bay Area Hands Off Our Vote Caravan on August 25 — traveling from Richmond to Oakland before reaching its final destination: the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.

by Ellen C. The safety and integrity of the upcoming Midterm Elections are in serious jeopardy — as the Trump Administration attempts to maintain power by "waging an unconstitutional effort to subvert voters’ will." That's why we are asking everyone — individuals and businesses — to take and support the "Pledge to Uphold Free And Democratic Elections" (shown in the graphic above).

Patriots all over the country are stepping up to stop the Trump regime from sabotaging the midterms. IEB will be in the thick of it, and we’re so glad that you’re joining us to do this …

by Aila F. Did you know that Oakland currently has several hundred automated license plate readers (ALPRs) spread across the city...and they have captured over 600,000,000 license plates in the last year alone? Provided by a company called Flock, these readers send data to Oakland's police department — with the alleged purpose of helping to fight crime. Unfortunately, the data can instead be used to threaten the safety of citizens who have committed no crimes — especially our immigrant neighbors.

Have you participated in a protest march, a demonstration or a picket line recently? If so, you were likely listening to various high-energy speakers, chuckling at the interesting and witty signage, and getting motivated by the surrounding crowd. You probably were not thinking about the various ways that things could go sideways, ranging from inattentive motorists to disruptive counterprotestors. IEB and other like-minded organizations have had a significant presence at countless political and social events over the years, more so during the Trump era.

The role of young people in helping to build a freer and more democratic America has often been overlooked.

by James W. Forty years ago, Oakland made a promise. In July 1986, the City Council declared Oakland a City of Refuge — a place of safety for people fleeing war and persecution. Today, that promise is being renewed, strengthened, and written into law in a way that can withstand the most aggressive federal immigration enforcement campaign in modern history. This is the story of how we got here — and why the next few weeks matter so much.

### Join us for a special "Rise Up!" overpass visibility event on 580 in Oakland! June 14 is Flag Day and Tr*mp's birthday. While he's throwing himself a fascist extravaganza on the White House lawn,...

by Stella R. What is mutual aid during Trump’s authoritarian regime? Mutual aid is about building solidarity NOT charity, sharing resources and building community networks.  “It is a form of organizing integral to all influential and successful social movements,” according to Dean Spade, a social justice activist, attorney and author of several books on how to fight fascism.

HELP REACH THOUSANDS OF VOTERS IN WHAT THE COOK REPORT CALLS ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL HOUSE RACES! Join IEB on either April 18/19 or May 30/31 as we canvass in Fresno for progressive Democrat Randy V...

by Nicole S. “I didn’t think I would be motivated to get up on a Saturday morning to collect signatures, but to my surprise, I found myself excited to get out there and talk to voters,” said Nic Steinberg, an IEB member who volunteered for the Berkeley ballot initiative to start a public bank in the East Bay. On May 7th, The…

While confusion abounds in the California gubernatorial race, Indivisible East Bay’s Canvass Crew couldn’t be more clear about their support for congressional candidate for California’s 22nd district, Randy Villegas. “He’s an educator, a small business owner, and his positions are right in line with what I believe in,” says Laurel teVelde. Laurel is one of three Co-Captains of IEB’s Canvass Crew, and in early April she organized a team of eight IEB members to canvass for Villegas in Fresno.

by Scott L. We are now over 60 days into a conflict with Iran, caused entirely by the regime otherwise known as the United States government, whose leader promised us no new wars and, like all the rest of the promises he’s made, has broken this one as well. It is now clearly understood and reported that pressure from Benjamin Netanyahu and Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia led Trump to believe he could easily effect regime change — as he recently (and illegally) did in Venezuela.

By Lil T. The Supreme Court’s ruling in Louisiana vs. Callais effectively eviscerates the Voting Rights Act and opens the floodgates to new waves of Republican gerrymandering ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. While the potential impact in California is less dire than in other states, we must remain vigilant and support organizations dedicated to protecting voter rights.

by Lil T. On Sunday April 12, 2026, many of us in the pro-democracy movement held our collective breath waiting to hear the outcome of the elections in Hungary. Would Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s authoritarian Prime Minister, be re-elected again or would liberal democracy re-assert itself after sixteen years of illiberal rule?  To our great relief, nearly 80% of eligible voters in Hungary turned out and in overwhelming numbers elected Péter Magyar’s party, Tisza, by winning 138 out of 199 seats.

This is part of a broader Indivisible effort to remake the Democratic party – check out Leah Greenberg explaining why California Indivisibles should get involved! Too many Democrats in Congress refuse to be a real opposition to MAGA – instead they treat our era as one of “politics as usual,” in which both major parties believe in democracy. As Indivisible National…

by Susan N. As we prepare to take part in collective actions on May 1, let’s show some love to U.S. labor unions, which are facing sustained attack by the Trump administration.  First, the good news. In 2025, the number of workers represented by a union increased by half a million compared with 2024, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
