The annual pilgrimage to Daniel’s U-Pick near Martock. We’ve been going for 24 years, since moving to Nova Scotia. Congrats to Daniel on 50 years in business!

Gorgeous hike in Terence Bay this morning. I intentionally left my camera at home and accidentally left my phone in the car, but it was beautiful. This is fall weather I can get on board with!

One of my favourite photos from a wedding I shot last weekend. I was so excited when I saw that truck!
A couple is kissing inside an old pickup truck. The photo is taken of them through the back window. There are spots of wear and rust on the truck.

I’m so glad this rain came today instead of yesterday. I shot my last summer wedding for this year and it was a perfect day. Lying in bed with one dog snoring and the other on his back getting belly rubs, listening to the rain is a pretty magical place for a recovery day.

I had a photo shoot at the Tangled Garden just outside of Wolfville last weekend. I picked up this rhubarb mint cordial and have been enjoying it with lemon sparkling water. I could drink a LOT of this stuff. So good!

Pretty evening. Chocolate Lake is still very busy. Jackson was happy to get into the water once it cooled enough for a proper walk.

Reading the Globe and Mail’s article “Canada’s 100 best cities for renters” and there’s not one in Nova Scotia. It’s honestly so depressing trying to get by in this province. Halifax is #118 which is listed as the best NS option.

I had a tooth extracted today. I’ll never understand how random things like teeth, eyes and feet aren’t considered part of the body under our healthcare system. But today I’m thankful for good benefits. 4-5 months before I can get an implant. Lots of soup on the menu!

Possibly my favourite shot from yesterday’s beach wedding. I’m so glad they were willing to play along!
A bride and groom are running on the beach in shallow water. She is wearing a red and white gown. He is wearing a beige suit. There are rocks behind them. He is splashing the water as he runs.

I had to dodge cars in the Rotary twice on my walk home from work. Lights flashing, in the middle of the crosswalk both times. It’s scary how many drivers don’t pay attention. A 14 year old was hit on Herring Cove yesterday. I don’t want to hear how pedestrians are careless. Drivers need to wake up

My poor dogs. Someone set off fireworks just around the corner from us on our walk at 6pm. They calmed down, only to start shaking an hour ago when the fireworks started again. It’s been relentless. Going to be a rough night here

End of week three at CUA. This week was Employee Appreciation Week and it was so much fun. There’s a lot of work every day but I’ve enjoyed learning so much. I didn’t think I’d love the work but it’s really interesting. The 20 minute walk is such a great way to start and end the day too.

Long but lovely day. “Dykes on the Dykes” in Wolfville as part of Valley Pride, brunch with new friends from the walk, and down to the Halifax waterfront to catch the end of Sail GP with my eldest. #novascotia #sailgp #avalleypride #photography
A group of people are walking along the Dykes in Wolfville. Their backs are to the camera. Water is to the left. They are walking on long grass. A group of women pose for the camera. Three of them are waving. There is long grass under and around them. To their left is a rocky area at low tide. Behind them are trees and more people walking. A Canadian sailboat can be seen through a crowd of people. Two sailboats on the harbour. There are pink fireworks in the air celebrating the race winner. On the far side of the harbour there are buildings.

Saturday may have been drizzly in the Valley, but this wedding went off beautifully. #novascotiaphotographer #weddingphotography #wolfville
A bride and groom are walking toward the camera. She is holding flowers in her hand. There is confetti being thrown in the air. A couple is walking on a path with long grass on either side. They are laughing. She is holding a bouquet of flowers. A couple is standing under an archway. There is a light behind them, and trees can be seen beyond where they are standing. The arch reads: HARRIET IRVING BOTANICAL GARDENS. A groom and bride are on a bench, looking down at the camera. She is holding a bouquet of flowers. They are wearing heart-shaped sunglasses.

North Cape, PEI. A beautiful but all too brief getaway. #photography #landscapephotography #pei #northcape
A bench is on the edge of a cliff. It is surrounded by long grasses. The ocean can be seen behind the bench. The red shores of North Cape, PEI. The ocean can be seen on the right side. On the left is long grass. The shore is rocky and there has been erosion. The shallow water shows the brownish-red sand. Many seagulls sit on the shore and shallow water. A cursory Google search is not the same as the experience gained from rigorous study. The current administration actively undermines expertise to our detriment. My dear mom thinks she knows more about biology than me. But I am quick to correct her. I wish more people understood this. #Pinks
One of the most dangerous ideas that has come about in the last 3 years is that all points of view are equally valid, and that Average Citizen (YOU) are just as equipped to judge which have merit as anyone else.
"Hear all sides, and judge for yourself!" No. I do not condone the death of Expertise, and neither should you.
1 am an expert in very, very few things. But in those areas, my expertise is hard earned through study, work, experience, and aptitude. None of it comes from attending Google University. But unless you are an expert in exactly the same areas, your opinion is not just as valid as mine. It's not.
And my opinion is not as valid as experts' in other fields. That is why THEY ARE THE EXPERTS. So if our leading epidemiologists largely agree that "A" is correct, and a couple of discredited doctors make a video that says "B" is correct, our response should not be "i'll listen to both and decide which makes sense to me." Confirmation bias exists, and only fools think they are free of it. To paraphrase Asimov, your ignorance is not the same as their experience. Genuinely smart people look for answers from people who are smarter than themselves. Only ignorant people believe their guess is as good as anyone else's.
