iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Highly amused seeing a certain subset of Bluesky users grapple with the fact that a decentralized protocol actually guarantees the speaking of Unapproved Thoughts and formation of Bad Communities much more certainly than Twitter ever could.

The free speech open protocol alternative to Twitter;

Definitely. Critical stuff that needs to be plastic can still be plastic. That would increase how futuristic it looks and feels, instead of coming off as chintzy.

I dream of a world with no plastics. Everything it touches now can be paper, string, wax, glass, rubber, wood, enamel, or aluminum. Producing lasting, ornate, reusable things would be much better

I’m enjoying the dawning horrified realization vibes as it becomes clear that both centralized governance/moderation by people, and decentralized governance/moderation by protocols, mean not getting what you want 100% of the time.

the trade off is that people will be allowed to say horrible and things and find like minded people. sure you can control what you see but that’s only the first goal of moderation

You’re a “skeeter”, you say?

Ohhh wait I know who needs an invite

> someone invites Ben Shapiro onto Bluesky

I’m going to invite Marjorie Taylor Greene onto bluesky

I am glad @mattyglesias.bsky.social is here and disavow bringing street (twitter) behavior into the salon (bluesky)

010

Who is someone from Twitter you definitely don’t want to see on bluesky?

Phone broke. No backups. 20 years of accumulated contacts, messages, and all sorts of information erased. But the SIM survived - all who text unbidden restore themselves in the social graph, next to the always running family group chat.

Reviewing the music I listen to day to day it’s clear that I channel vice entirely into that part of my life. It’s like a law of conservation.

I’ve been paying taxes for over a decade now and my plan remains the same. If they come for me over paperwork mistakes, I become an American folk-hero through a multi-day standoff and shootout
