Last night we had the Evenlight (Spring Equinox) ritual at Blazewing Eyrie! I told a myth about finding the divine in nature, and then we went on a nature walk, collected things that called to us, and arranged them in a nice display when we got back

Monday: Didn’t have to check out until noon (yay!) and plane wasn’t leaving until 6, so got to spend a leisurely time heading out. Early afternoon spent talking math and language with friends and taking empty-hotel pics, then did ASL lessons with Trace after plane was delayed. Home just before 12AM

A quilt sewn from orange and blue regular pentagons, with four meeting at each corner. The middle pentagon is embroidered with a design of five linked foxes. When my (math PhD) friend Lorxus took it out to show us, they said “Okay go ahead and spread this out flat on the table,” and started jokingly insisting, but after taking a quick look at it I grinned at him and said “We both know that I cannot”. A surface made of four pentagons joined at the corners is hyperbolic, meaning it can’t be flattened since the pentagons add up to more than 360 degrees. The quilt was made for Lorxus by their boyfriend Jay (also, of course, a math nerd)

The architecture of the hotel is very cool, and I had a lot of fun going up and down the elevators taking interesting pictures from interesting spots, especially with the 3D camera on my 3DS. This was about 2PM on Monday, it’s really shocking how quickly things went from “10-minute-long elevator lines” to “I have all the elevators to myself”

My plushie brother Zack attempting to escape the luggage once we arrived at home. He’s a plush cross fox, about 6 feet long in total, and can be (barely) squished into a checked-baggage-size duffel. This was his first time at a con too; I carried him around some on Monday and he got plenty of compliments.

Sunday: No plans; spent a while in the dealers room (haul pic to come), did some casual fursuiting and got pics. Spent some time in the lovely quiet room, then had the customary deep dish pizza dinner and made it back for some awesome dancing in suit, and hung with friends and suiters in hotel lobby

$Me in casual fursuit mode, head and paws\ only with a hoodie, T-shirt, and jeans otherwise. Suit is a tan coyote/otter hybrid with sparkly blue and purple headfur and markings. I’m in the ‘fishbowl’ area of the main hotel, with a glass dome above me. This is my favorite part of the hotel, a big departure from the look of the rest of it, and generally a less-crowded space since it’s a bit out of the way.$

A cuboctohedron made of rainbow-colored magnet tiles, with plastic dinosaurs set on top. This was in the quiet room, which was a very well-put-together space for calm and sensory releif. Lots of things to play with and ample seating of different sorts including bean bags. Definitely the quietest place we were in aside from our hotel room, and it was nice to be in there for a while building things, solving puzzles, and doing a bit of collaborative coloring with Trace.

Deep purple background with lots of dancers, with a tan coyotter with blue and purple markings facing the crowd, holding a 5-foot-long staff that’s lit from within with teal, orange, pink, purple, and blue lights. I think this is the most staff spinning I’ve done for ages, since I didn’t end up doing it as much at CFT this year. Also definitely first time in about 5 years that I’ve done in in suit. I’m a lot more coordinated at it than I used to be, it felt awesome and according to Trace, I had a lot of fans asking for photo/video. :D

Saturday: Artist’s Alley and Art Show, watched 30 (quirky, surreal) plays in 60 minutes. Then the bullying meetup where Trace was terrible to nerdy me and it was a lot of fun. Had to deal with a lost badge problem that night which wasn’t fun but had the help to feel okay and do a nice wander instead

A nicely-antlered deer fursuiter in the artist alley, carrying a deer crossing sign. I took lots of deer pictures, because deer are cute and MFF seems to have a lot of them. Something about the season maybe ;)

Me looking very nerdy with my glasses and Trace next to me giving me bunny ears. I was really surprised how many people were at the “nerds/bullies” meetup/scene-space. (Also just fursuits with glasses is a big thing now too?) All this is a dynamic I sorta got into over the past few years I hadn’t gone to cons and I didn’t realize it was becoming a big thing with other folks too.

Arrow, a big buff brown wolf (fursuit) in a varsity jacket, pins a black canid fursuiter under his paw. (They’re both definitely enjoying themselves) Arrow bullied me a bit too (thanks to Trace) which was very cute and hit and especially fun knowing that he’s someone I know from way back on FurryMUCK.

The whole vibe of the meetup was playful and fun and supportive, really focusing on consent. One thing I’m always thrilled by in the scene spaces in general is how positive and friendly they are, and this was no exception

The “scene of the crime” bank vault pedestal as of Saturday night, heavily stickered abd drawn on. The display case has holes cut in it, and a note inside where the priceless artifact should be. Over the next day, it got more stickered and more things ended up in the case, including (somehow) an egg stuck to the inside top with tape.

This was a fun thing to see on the way to decompress in Vidar’s room, after the stress of realizing I lost my badges, and then also that the lost and found was closed (I got the badges back the next day, yay!)

Friday: We explored the con spaces some more, including the arcade(!) and a couple very fun concerts. Also swung through the dealers room where I blew most of my budget on one (very good) thing. That evening I spent a lot of time in the dance, spinning my glow staff for a full hour with no breaks!

StepmaniaX arcade machines (with quite a line behind them) in one corner of a full arcade that was set up in a downstairs hotel space. Lots of rhythm games and classic games from various eras. I had one of my best Puzzle Bobble runs ever, and taught Trace how to play Powerstone!

A nidorino (fursuit) playing an electric violin in front of an eclectic assortment of other musicians (also in various amounts of fursuit). This is Otter Chaos? Who played jazzy arrangements of various video game and movie themes. Highlights were the Pokémon battle theme medley featuring the above violinist’mon, a rendition of Snake Eater sung by someone in Solid Snake cosplay, and the Day the Earth Stood Still theme, featuring two(!) theremins

A very colorful fleece tail belonging to a party coyote kigurumi made by Apoxon. Purple, pink, orange, yellow with green spots. I’ve been eyeing this kigu for a while, and she doesn’t make many of them so I had to snap it up as soon as I saw it.

The main ballroom set up as a dance floor, drenched in purple and blue light with a small crowd dancing in front of the stage. This was the Friday night dance, with Avain Invasion (one of my favorite furry musicians) opening. I spun my glow staff for their whole set, and managed to gather a pretty good crowd of other glowy performers around me as well. Felt awesome to show off my stuff along with other folks being awesome too.

Thursday: Flew in and picked up by Trace, who had to drive through three whiteouts to get there (he kept explaining, in very dad way). Braved the reg line and spent the rest of the evening in hotel rooms with Vidar and friends. Saw some lovely costuming from one the other folks in his room

The massive reg line on Thursday night, winding through a cavernous convention center room. Winding lines of folks in various costumes, and balloons floating in the air. The printers went down while we were in the middle of it, but it was back up in about 10 minutes. We were in line for 30 mins total which really wasn’t too bad. And more importantly got to see many cute costumes, and play Keepy Uppy!

An area staged like a fancy bank vault, with marble pillars (lightly stickered) and a shady-looking raccoon standing to one side. The con theme was Heist, and they had a lot of great decor for it! This was the scene of the crime, in one of the hotel halls.
