Labour came to power promising to ‘repeal and replace’ the egregious 2023 legislation. As many of the submissions to this report suggest, the current Bill seems less like root and branch reform & more a case of some delicate pruning around the edges. @inclusivepeaceora.bsky.social

Is Labour Listening on Legacy? Aimee Smith & Feargal Cochrane from the #InclusivePeace project PAIS University of Warwick write in the July issue @Fortnight50 'Is Labour Listening on Legacy' in Northern Ireland? They argue that an inclusive, victim-centred approach to reconciliation is essential
A magazine page from Fortnight @ 55 titled "Is Labour listening on Legacy?" by Aimee Smith and Feargal Cochrane. The article discusses the Labour government’s commitment to repeal and replace the 2023 Legacy and Reconciliation Act.The second page of the article continues the critique of the government's approach to legacy reform. It highlights contradictions in Labour's stance—promoting independent and victim-centred institutions while retaining political control.

Firstly let’s call it what it is: Bombing. (‘Strikes’ is a framing that minimises the impact of these attacks) Secondly, singling out energy infrastructure isn’t a ceasefire in any meaningful sense. It would still allow Putin to pulverise Ukraine.

One of the many challenges ahead for the US, Will be how effectively its citizens mobilise themselves through civic society and statutory groups to prevent a new reality from prevailing. Bishop Budde showed the way forwards last week, so that ‘alt-facts’ don’t become real ones.

Tyrannies thrive on atomising citizens, making them fear they are alone, vulnerable & powerless against the coercive power of the state. It has never been more vital for civic groups in US to be inclusive, to connect citizens, to show that minorities are not alone, they will not be abandoned.
