[llm, adventures in slop] In light of all the recent hype, I decided to see how LLMs deal with truly weird problems, not just webslop. I assumed they'd fail in a spectacular and entertaining way at debugging linux audio. Turns out, at great token […] [Original post on social.hackerspace.pl]
screenshot of claude code tui, main conclusion:

Root Cause

  The ALC257 codec (hdaudioC1D0) is bound to snd_hda_codec_generic (built-in, CONFIG_SND_HDA_GENERIC=y) instead of snd_hda_codec_alc269 (CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_REALTEK=m).

  Why: SND_HDA_CORE=y makes bind.c built-in, which means #ifdef MODULE is false — so request_codec_module() is a no-op. When the HDA controller probes the ALC257, no specific driver is loaded yet,
   so codec_bind_generic() claims it with HDA_CODEC_ID_GENERIC. When snd_hda_codec_alc269 loads later (via udev), probe_id is already set to HDA_CODEC_ID_GENERIC, so the Realtek driver's
  hda_codec_match() fails to match.

  Consequence: The ThinkPad ACPI fixup (hda_fixup_thinkpad_acpi) never runs → vmaster_mute_led stays 0 → Master Playback Switch gets no SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_ACCESS_SPK_LED flag →
  ctl-led/speaker/card1/list is empty → the audio-mute LED trigger never fires.

RE: social.hackerspace.pl/@implr/116113… i should finally get around to reporting the zfs catastrophe this causes as a bug device falls of the bus, kernel removes it, any zfs kthread that tried to touch that pool gets stuck, any userspace io ends in D, can't even export the pool

i wanted to post a "tapping the sign" dunk re: discord and realized mine is older than my fedi presence a bit of a miss with the metaverse though
screenshot of a tweet posted by myself:

I'm amazed that people consider Discord a viable alternative for moving communities to.
If you're scared of musk twitter, what are you going to do when FB buys Discord in a desperate bid to get Gamers into the metaverse?
They're unprofitable and VC funded. It's inevitable.

fucking insane. some fish use electrical signals to navigate; if two fish on the same frequency encounter each other, they automatically switch frequencies to avoid "signal jamming" each other. exactly like how your wifi router does at home. wow.
