AI is all about saving loan costs for big companies, replacing office workers. It's very convenient as that's a layer of people with usually decent income, so savings are bigger for corporations. Ofc their work will be done with less quality, but it's all about bringing cost down.

Got no clue how good he was as an academic, seems like he was OK but overhyped. Noone deserves this kind of a witch hunt: decency, fairness, moderation, even old dusty piety is what is lacking today in media, commenters, and most of all in social media and its emotional manipulation algorithm & AIs.

Hey #chesspunks… Here’s a fun variation from round 3 of my club championship earlier this week. After grabbing a very hot pawn on b5 with his bishop, white had the option to retreat it after I played Qb6. What would have happened if my opponent had played that? Not too difficult but quite pretty 🤩

It's called a gambit, because you sacrifice a pawn.. which is not good in this case, nor necessary. It's called counter because it tries to "counter" white's attack.

There is Nc6 instead, and if Bc4, play g6 and if then Qf3, play Nf6 etc.. then you have a development advantage as Black and a slight advantage after the opening.

Yeah it's a political strategy. Because Starmer is unpopular right now, everyone can easily badmouth any policies of his, regardless of how much sense they make. It's an opportunity to use irrationality to further beat down on policies that just make sense, used by the "power at any price" parties.

Old chess computers are way better training partners than "standard" bots.. they are limited by processor power and style of play.. and a lot different from each other. Modern chess engines like Leela, Stockfish, Berzerk, ... are all great for comparative analysis though.
