Introducing vero, a simple way to use pipes to connect a single #Golang backend with native #macOS, #Windows, and #Linux frontends. I hope you find it useful:

The question a gentleman asks is what is most likely to make the other person most comfortable. No sudden moves. Nothing that might cause fear. No unwanted interactions.

If it's a man, go with a polite smile. Also nothing or a nod if you don't know them, raise the head (ie first half of nod) if you have interacted but not spoken, raised head or wave if you have spoken.

If it's a woman who you don't know this probably means a polite smile or nod at most. No action that might cause fear.

Well put. I know that this is true. I just don't like that this is true. Although, I wonder if this applying to desktop and not mobile is just because it's (currently) not worth the investment for the desktop. As opposed to desktop development being intrinsically more complex.

Thanks! Yes they are. They are throttled in various ways to not be too expensive to run. They are all apps that I use myself for various reasons, and all have OpenAPI interfaces and allow users to download all of their data. I love great apps and only build when what I want doesn't exist.

I have 4 reasonably vanilla apps on the Apple app store. Maybe I am an outlier but I don't have app review complaints. Review times have ebbed and flowed a bit over the years but are generally within 12 to 24 hours. Rejections were always logical and quickly approved once I fixed the problems.

Had a great discussion over coffee about intended and unintended consequences today. If I send a query via email or chat and receive an AI response then I am unlikely to ever contact that person or organisation again. Sometimes that is their intended outcome, and if so, congratulations! :)

Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. But it doesn't have to be that way. This June, I’m taking part in the 2026 Vinnies CEO Sleepout to help people facing homelessness – and I’d love your support. For one night, I’ll give up my bed and sleep out on cardboard to gain a small insight into what too many people experience every day. Will you donate to help me reach my goal? Users are now trained to distrust thirsty tech companies (that they argue include Chrome / iCloud) that always prioritise lock in and other features that benefit the companies and not the users. Magical authentication that they don’t understand that may lock them in to your platform? No thanks.

If I have to store the token in 1Password anyway, why not just store a traditional password accessible via keychain? Also, if we are going to allow email reset, why not just allow totp and avoid use of passkeys completely?

Iain McLaren @imclaren.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
I think that the issue is that passkeys are magical in a way that users don’t understand or trust. Where is the token / key stored? Who knows? If I lose my device will I lose access? Who knows? If I switch to or away from Apple will I lose access? Who knows?

calmshows is a fun app that I built to track when your favourite tv shows and movies are available. No ads, no distractions, just joy. One minor complaint. If you search for 'calmshows' on the appstore it does not appear. It used to be the first or second hit! apps.apple.com/au/app/calmsho...
