It's been a hot minute since I was traveling (or living) abroad, but I do have quite the collection of museum displays, store signage, and menu text. Menus are my favorites, because what is translated as awkward poetry in signs is often... not so poetic on menus.

Menu written in Chinese with English translation under each line. Literally every single dish on the menu has been translated as "Italian meat sauce face." The section heading for soup has been correctly translated as soup. In the corner is an illustration of a stereotypical chef with the hat and white coat and red kerchief at the neck. He has a mustache and is grinning while holding a tray of food. He is leaning back in a way that suggests his torso is not properly connected to his legs. At his feet is the single English word, "work."

Photo of a menu page that I took while living in Beijing around 2013 or so. The dish is a bunch of brown cubes in a red oily sauce, with strips of red pepper and one decorative sprig of parsley on top. It costs 28 RMB and the English translation of the dish is "Bloody battle." It's actually a jellied pig's blood dish, which I once described to someone as, "Like blood pudding, but jigglier."

I took this photo at a restaurant in Beijing in 2014-ish, and for the record I did not order this so I can't confirm just how dangerous the broth was.

Photo of a wall sign at a museum display in Pingyao, China that I took in 2007. There is a long description in Chinese, followed by a short description in English, which reads, "The horse carriage used in ancient time is equivalent to Mercedes Benz today, it ranks very high." It was next to a generic horse carriage (not pictured). This was the site where Zhang Yimou filmed the movie Raise the Red Lantern, and had some costumes and props set up to view.

Pferdeunwissende Person hier: es MUSS irgendeine Hilfe geben, dass man als noch nie auf einem Pferd gesessen habend da raufkommt, das ist sonst komplett unmöglich! (Bin eher klein. Pferde sind für mich sowas wie Wolkenkratzer.) Das darf einen Gedanken wert sein, aber not your job. ;)

spinat und kartoffeln sind eine herrliche kombination! meine geschmackliche lieblingskonsistenz der beiden in kombination ist die variante für kleinkinder: kartoffelpüree und passierter spinat, kauen unnötig. aber keine konsistenz ist hier falsch!

Kann man machen als Spezies wenn man nicht aus 50-70% Wasser besteht, täglich ein paar Liter Wasser zum Überleben braucht und die gesamte Ernährung unmittelbar davon abhängt. Sonst sollte man es tendenziell eher lassen solche Veränderungen loszutreten m.M.
