I understand and don't understand this obsession with the fact that the population is aging and youth is "receding." Still, what is the problem with aging? Let it age! Why is this viewed as a moral act of decadence? Why is life seen in terms of 'growth' , 'decline,' instead of just being seen?

I had a lovely interaction this week with a student who mentioned that her peers are encouraging her to use AI for assignments, believing that we professors can’t tell the difference. I kindly explained that we can tell, but that our primary job is to teach, not to police.
