China did as much as Russia did, I'm guessing he's figured out the dynamic already.

Don't we hear constantly about Italian youth unemployment? Surely a mobility scheme could address some of these labour shortages?

While slow EU growth isn't good, I'm not convinced that US GDP is that real. So much seems to malinvestment in outright scams or the AI bubble, plus incredibly inflated healthcare costs.

"they want to close the Iran files by 2027" sounds like it will go as right as it did in Iraq. The mission accomplished meme will be much worse, of course.

Is that a real argument though? Taking the bus is already way way cheaper than driving. The people who still drive don't do it because of money. You get fewer cars on the road by getting a better bus service, not a cheaper one.

Not just that, Brexit was supposed to be all about brits buccaneering in faraway lands, surely the brexiters should be happy that this goal is being achieved.

Actually nevermind, I think I misunderstood you. I thought you meant the EU should become more democratic than it already is, whereas it seems like you just meant it's more democratic than China.

No, please give a concrete proposal about how you want the EU to be more democratic.

What's your idea of an EU that's "more democratic"? That's an inevitable paradox.

It's so rampant and blatant nowadays that I have a feeling they won't even need to do the usual multi year investigations normally associated with white collar crime. Assuming there's a country and justice system left by then.

The most unsurprising plot twist is that all the "contrarians" who spent years attacking every sane and legal policy of Dem presidents are now falling over themselves to praise Trump's lawlessness and corruption. They are not contrarians, they are cheerleaders for authoritarianism.

I'm not sure people in Europe are quite in tune with how bad the things Trump does are. He gets sanewashed by American media once in English and then that gets recycled even more in whatever the local language is. The local media end up reporting on him like he's just somewhat eccentric.

Frankly, if we just agreed to reduce the size of cars to what they were like let's say in 2005, you'd probably achieve similar gas savings, which I'm also ok with.
010
ill-advised.bsky.social @ill-advised.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
I completely agree with this, which is why as we understand more about usage of such cars, the testing and tax treatment should be adjusted to reflect the latest data. But ultimately I don't have a problem with the cars themselves.
110
ill-advised.bsky.social @ill-advised.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
Frankly the best option would be to ban cars entirely and just ride public transit and bikes, that's a solution that's also already available, and EVs arguably hurt its implementation by keeping society car centric.
100
ill-advised.bsky.social @ill-advised.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
I don't think being super dogmatic about this stuff is that helpful tbh. Reducing fuel usage is good just generally speaking. Chances are that these cars will be replaced with EVs before long and then go down the chain to replace less fuel efficient cars on the second hand market.
100
ill-advised.bsky.social @ill-advised.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
So it sounds like they're reducing emissions by approximately 25% which is about what I would expect from something that's clearly an intermediate solution.
