This strikes me as the least interesting quote from that essay. What’s truly surprising though is that final paragraph. As part of the crowd AC describes, all I can say is the aftermath of LUX felt deeply communal.

Ok I can share—today MSLIS student Nadja Robot donated a teletype machine to @skeuomorphpress.org’s Undead Media Lab But this is not just any teletype—it’s the one Michael S. Hart used to digitize the Declaration of Independence & Alice in Wonderland—the 1st texts in what became Project Gutenberg

This caption needs the Radio Yerevan treatment: Is it true that this is Kafka w/a stranger in Venice in 1913? “Yes, it is true, only it’s not 1913 but 1914, and it’s not Venice but Denmark, and that’s not a stranger but Ernst Weiss.” The article is from 2024, but you should still fix that, goethe.de

I just went through months of outlook spam and found a dead-letters-office-worth of failed and misdirected messages. In addition to real spam, sent to long-departed colleagues, former instructors, people dearly missed. Spammy nostalgia is real.

Imagining how surprised someone will be, 40-50 years hence, to learn of the New School’s origins…. For that matter, to discover that for decades, Indiana University taught more languages than any other school in the country. And bragged about it!!
