Also, a word of advice: don’t try to sugar coat or rationalize the really crappy parts of our history. It’s ok to acknowledge that the church had some really racist policies in place.

One of our weekend traditions is my 1st grader and I go to our neighborhood coffee shop for breakfast. There’s a sweet grandpa with a thick European accent who comes up to my kid and asks if he’s been good this week, and then gives him a dollar bill. I love having 3rd places in my neighborhood
