Speaking outside Leinster House, Aóntu leader Peadar Toibin, who convened the meeting, confirmed Ms Steen has received the backing of eight TDs and senators publicly, while two will announce their support in the coming days.
Those eight Oireachtas members are Peadar Tóibín, Paul Lawless, Mattie McGrath, Joe Conway, Ronan Mullins, Sharon Keogan, Carol Nolan and Sarah O'Reilly.
