Shabbat Shalom and Shana Tova from the Shared Safety Delegation.  We fondly remember the Shabbat we spent together recently in Israel/Palestine.  May the new year bring safety, equality, and justice for all — Palestinians and Israelis, our neighbors and ourselves.

On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year and the beginning of the Days of Awe — our beloved Jewish communities enter a period of great reckoning. How did we live out our values in 5786? Where did we fall short? Who will we be in 5787? How can we achieve teshuvah, a return to righteousness?

RIGHT TO EDUCATION END THE DEMOLITIONS JUSTICE FOR AWDAHJUSTICE FOR AWDAH:
Emergency Call To Action In Solidarity with Umm al-Khair
The residents of Umm al-Khair are calling for people around the world to host solidarity memorials and mourning tents in their communities as part of an action to mark the one year anniversary of Awdah Hathaleen's murder.
Beloved friend, colleague, teacher, and civil resister Awdah was shot dead by an Israeli settler on July 28th, 2025 while defending his community. The next day as mourners gathered to pray and grieve his death, soldiers arrived en masse to disrupt the proceedings, declared a closed military zone, and violently dispersed the bereaved from the mourning tent where prayers were being held.
Relentless attacks from settlers, soldiers, and the state have been unceasing in the year since, as the community endures escalating attempts to deny their children the right to education, cut their water supply, and demolish their homes.
Awdah's family invites all of us to mourn alongside their community and with them demand justice for Awdah, the right to education for their children, and an end to mass demolitions.
Register here to host an action as part of this coordinated global effort. All those who register will be sent a resource packet with additional instructions, information, and visuals for your local events in solidarity with Umm al-Khair. Donations can be made here to further support Awdah's family in the fight for justice.
Awdah's creativity, mirth, humour, and undying love for his friends and his community were guideposts for many of us in the work of building solidarity and a vision of justice. We demand justice for him and all the residents of Umm al-Khair facing state-sanctioned murder, brutal settler attacks, and forced expulsion.

CONGRESSMAN STEPHEN F. LYNCH'S STATEMENT

ON H.R. 3565, THE BLOCK THE BOMBS ACT
After the October 7, 2023, attack, I believed that the United States had a responsibility to support Israel in its efforts to protect its citizens and respond forcefully against Hamas. However, over time, I have become increasingly alarmed at the Israeli Government's conduct of the war, its resistance to allowing urgently needed aid to enter Gaza, and the devastating death toll of innocent children, civilians, journalists, doctors, and aid workers.

I have used my voice time and again to demand that Prime Minister Netanyahu abide by the rules of war and comply with international standards, and to press the Trump Administration to exercise its leverage and force greater restraint by Israel. However, as the carnage of civilian lives continues, I have come to the conclusion that we need to take stronger actions to end the suffering.

Therefore, I have decided to add my name as a cosponsor H.R. 3565, the Block the Bombs Act, to place limitations on the transfer of certain offensive weapons to Israel. Under this bill, these arms would be transferred to Israel only after a Congressional vote of approval and assurances from Israel that they will be used only in accordance with international law. It would not impact defensive weapons such as Iron Dome or David's Sling.

I did not come to this decision lightly. Having traveled frequently to the Middle East, including multiple visits to Gaza, I am aware of the dangers in this region.

I have also heard from many constituents on all sides of this matter, and I appreciate the immense sensitivity of this issue. But the Netanyahu Government's extreme conduct in Gaza needs to be stopped if there is to be any chance for a negotiated two-state solution, which is the only way to ensure a lasting peace for Israel, the Palestinians, and the Middle East.
