I have been traveling a lot for work lately. I haven't had a lot of time to myself, but what little I do is usually distraction free (hotel rooms am I right) so I've used the time I've had to write sexy space smut. It's first draft stuff, but damn am I just happy to be writing again. #writing

I re-watched this on a flight last week. It's so well done. I would highly recommend watching with subtitles. I caught so many more little details about the background story because of it.

It back to the shelter, in the SAME storm, when Noles cuts him loose (believing Mac to be The Thing) Childs is literally admitting that he did the exact thing that he said was impossible for a human to do only hours earlier. All with the passive acceptance of a creature that is no longer threatened.

It's also at this point that Childs says something interesting to Mac. When asked where he was Childs responds that he thought he saw Blair and ran after him, and "got lost in the storm" earlier in the film Childs says "nothing could survive out there without a guideline" in reference to Mac making

Instead he seems resigned. To his fate? Maybe. But what if it's not resignation? What if it's relaxation? Relaxed in knowing he has won. The Thing wants the cold. It can hibernate in the ice. Just like it did after crashing. Until another group comes along to search the wreckage. Ready and waiting

He becomes more passive. More questioning and reserved. Not explosive or ready to jump into it. He just sits and accepts Mac's decisions. No argument. Just acceptance. Even going so far as to comment "explosion got the temperature of this whole place up, won't last long though" but he isn't bothered

Throughout the film Childs is presented as hot headed and rash. Ready to jump in and make quick decisions, often not fully thought out MacReady even comments on it at one point saying "maybe someone more level headed" in regard to Childs holding on to the gun BUT in the end his whole demeanor shifts
