Interesting to learn about the passage of SB805 in California. It will potentially increase the amount of services available for autistic people beyond ABA-anything considered evidence-based. Similar bills have passed in 3 otber states. #SNS2026 mailchi.mp/6d0a5d2ab4d6...

Having a good time so far at #SNS2026. It's been particularly mind blowing to meet several people I've known on the internet for many years. First day was a mixed bag, second day was much better. Ready to finish strong today.

It cracks me up that there was a site in the 2000s called Autism Fries and it was about the ingredients in McDonald's fries causing autism. Given the time period, I'm half-surprised the people behind Freedom Fries didn't seize the opportunity to make Autism Fries. web.archive.org/web/20060423...

Promising new article about longterm impacts of ABA. N = 34,240. 17120 had ABA, 17120 did not. This is far from conclusive, as there could be many reasons for higher # of mental health issues, but it absolutely runs circles around the 2018 study. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41206741/

Being done with grad school is pretty nice. I feel like I really have time to do my archival deep dives and have finally mustered the spoons to schedule oral history interviews again. Finishing grad school is quite bittersweet though because wtf is this job market.

Not disputing the overall claim here but I do want to flag that the BanAba ""initiative"" is deeply unserious, impractical, and led by someone who is extremely toxic and a textbook aspie supremacist. She's gotten some clout from publishing a study on ABA and PTSD but it's a horribly designed study.

I think it’s important to keep in mind that pretty much every bad thing happening right now in America has happened before. That doesn’t make it any less abhorrent, but it does mean we’ve been here before as a country. What did you think the Harris campaign slogan meant?

I learned recently that there’s an artifact in my house of a “Davening Rabbi”. My grandparents acquired this on a trip to Israel circa 1971. The head can bob up and down. I believe the sculptor’s name is Frank Meisler.

Today is Retraction Day, when we observe the anniversary of the retraction (Feb. 2, 2010) of the fraudulent paper that purported to show a link between vaccines and autism. 🧪#medsky
This is the front page of a fraudulent research article that purported to show a link between vaccines and autism. The word "RETRACTED" is written across it in large red letters.

Wikipedia: On 28th February 1998, a fraudulent research paper by physician Andrew Wakefield and twelve coauthors, titled "Ileal-Lymphoid-Nodular Hyperplasia, Non-Specific Colitis, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder in Children", was published in the British medical journal The Lancet.[1] The paper falsely claimed causative links between the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine and colitis and between colitis and autism. The fraud involved data selection, data manipulation, and two undisclosed conflicts of interest.

Amidst a chaotic 2 weeks with an avalanche of bad news, here's a little bit of good news. This may represent a culture shift on what the best autism research to conduct is (no small part thx to neurodiversity) but it's too soon to tell for sure. Genetic studies definitely still exist.

Ok I may have gone a bit too far in this post. Let me make something clear-I can disagree with someone’s decision not to vote and even be mad at them. I can’t always control how I feel about something. However, I can totally control how I act upon said feelings. Notice how I didn’t namedrop anyone.

Message to any leftists who made it a point not to vote in this election and "divest from electoral politics" (or vote 3rd party)... You aren't "liberating" anyone by sitting on your hands during election season. Voting is a 2 way street but it isn't *not* voters' fault when 47 strips away rights.

Curious as to why this happened-was there too much loss of revenue? Were they not very active? Either way, I think this is good news. One thing I will say about A$ is that despite their rebranding, they have steadily been bringing in less money in revenue over the past decade.

Perhaps other people with December birthdays can relate to this-it's always felt like the most exciting birthday festivities for me are for things I do around then and not necessarily the day of, especially during the holiday season. It just kinda roles into it. Not a bad thing, mind you.
