I never belonged to a fraternity since my evangelical college didn’t allow them. The college has probably mishandled every reported sexual assault in its history, & thus many if not most go unreported. With that being said, I don’t see the point of fraternities. They seem to do more harm than good.

Finished reading the unredacted 1st print run edition of Della Van Hise’s Star Trek Killing Time. The novel is Kirk/Spock fiction, & it was too explicit for Richard Arnold (1 of Roddenberry’s assistants) or allegedly Roddenberry so the first run was pulled. Spirk was toned down for subsequent runs.

Cover of the New Star Trek Novel Killing Tkme by Della Van Hise. It features Spock in a cape with two alluring Romulan women behind him. A Romulan bird of prey is flying above.

Currently reading the unredacted original print run edition of Della Van Hise’s Star Trek: Killing Time. I’m not sure what’s more erotic: Kirk and Spock thinking about each other or Kirk thinking about the Enterprise.

When season 4 of Star Trek Strange New Worlds started, I was skeptical after season 3. But I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy most episodes. I didn’t enjoy the horror or hangover ones since I generally don’t enjoy those things. Granted Human Best Friend is rewatcheable unlike most hangover movies.

I like the concept of a donut, but it is always so disappointing to eat one. The only exception is World’s Fair Donuts in St. Louis, but it has been years since I have had a donut from there.

Asked two of my classes today if they knew what the golden rule was. They did not. A student also defined Confucianism as “when you are confused about something.” Apparently she was being serious.

I asked a student repeatedly to put her phone away in class today, and she just glared at me. I glared back at her and she finally put it away. It’s so difficult to be engaging and to foster participation when students automatically are using their phones no matter what.

Good grief. Before my brother-in-law moves out, he‘s definitely going to burn the house. Always cooking food on the burner & forgetting about it as he scrolls his phone while smoking outside and leaving his cigarette butts everywhere. I guess the house burning down is why he will finally move out.

Finished rereading Margaret Wander Bonanno‘s Star Trek „Strangers from the Sky“ for the first time in 30 years. Though it contradicts canon, it holds up well. It’s recounts through an in-universe book the real first contact between humans and Vulcans. In the Trek litverse before First Contact,

Trekkies: Modern Trek has too many stories with universe-ending stakes. SNW Season 4: A character-driven season finale without universe-ending stakes. Trekkies: We like the SNW season 4 finale, but it doesn’t feel like a finale. 🖖

It’s really annoying when universities cancel classes for silly sports ball games that don’t begin until the evening two weeks in a row on the same day of the week and at the same time of the day. Some faculty do put a lot of effort in designing their courses.

#StarTrekSNW Spoiler Alert 🚨 I enjoyed the SNW season finale. I have some quibbles, but I enjoyed how it focused on Uhura which was great for a finale in the 60th year of Trek. The twist felt like something out of a 80s TOS novel so I liked that. Also did we just witness the birth of the Prophets?

Looking forward to be able to watch the SNW season finale tonight or tomorrow but I don’t like the Paramount description: “A time ripple damages the Enterprise, forcing young and old Uhura to cooperate and fix the timeline.” Old Uhura? TOS Uhura wasn’t old.

I may not always be a defender or super fan of SNW (though I usually like it), but I find the whole Kirk dated La’An but doesn’t know who Khan is complaint superficial. Part of the whole conference room scene in Space Seed was explain Khan to the viewers, & Kirk not knowing wasn’t key to the plot.

One of my favorite things in 80s TOS Trek novels is when authors of stand alone novels reference or include characters from their previous novels, even if other authors never reference them. It gives a sense of a mini-universe within the greater Star Trek universe. I love 80s numbered TOS novels.

Currently reading James Blish’s Star Trek 7 (TOS adaptations). I read them as teenager in the 90s & loved them since they were my only access to TOS. That being said, they read differently now. His descriptions of women are so fucking sexist. It’s like he decided to focus on the worst parts of TOS.

As I expected, there was a twist allowing the Tomol to change into powerful but benevolent beings unlike what the Shedai wanted. Trek at its best.
