Today, the UN officially designated Israel’s assault on Gaza as a genocide. As a party to the Genocide Convention, the U.S. has a legal obligation to obey our own laws, stop weapons sales to Israel, and demand a permanent ceasefire. End the genocide. Ceasefire now.
257. The Commission recommends that all Member States:
(a) Employ all means reasonably available to them to prevent the commission of genocide in the Gaza Strip;
(b) Cease the transfer of arms and other equipment or items, including jet fuel, to the State of Israel or third States where there is reason to suspect their use in military operations that have involved or could involve the commission of genocide;
(c) Ensure individuals and corporations in their territories and within their jurisdiction are not involved in the commission of genocide, aiding and assisting the commission of genocide or incitement to commit genocide and investigate and prosecute those who may be implicated in these crimes under international law;
(d) Facilitate the investigations and domestic proceedings and take action (including imposing sanctions) against the State of Israel and against individuals or corporations that are involved in or facilitating the commission of genocide or incitement to commit genocide;
(e) Cooperate with the investigation of the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
258. The Commission recommends that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court:
(a) Examine, within its continuing investigation in the Situation in the State of Palestine, the crime of genocide for amendment to existing arrest warrants and addition to future application for arrest warrants;
(b) Examine the involvement of officials mentioned in this report for inclusion as those most responsible for international crimes committed in the occupied Palestinian territory.

Well called. If we want to move forward, we need to respect all traditions. Border lives are complicated. And reporters need to understand that better, and ensure their reportage does not look like bias.

It is perfectly legal to know your rights and to educate others about them, too. EVERYONE in the United States, citizen or not, has rights. I will not allow this administration to intimidate us from helping you know about them. Here’s our shareable guide ⬇️: (pt. 1/2)
KNOW YOUR
RIGHTS
IN CASE OF ICE:
CONOCE TUS DERECHOS
EN CASO DE ENCUENTRO CON ICE:DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR.
ICE cannot enter your home without a warrant signed by a judge.
Tell the agents to show you the warrant by sliding it under the door.
NO ABRAS TU PUERTA.
ICE no puede entrar a tu casa sin una orden firmada por un juez. Diles a los agentes que te muestren la orden deslizándola debajo de la puerta.ASK THEM
TO LEAVE.
If ICE doesn't have a warrant, tell them you do not consent for them to enter your home and ask them to leave. At work, ICE cannot enter employee-only areas without permission.
2
You have the right to remain silent.
If the agents ask you questions, tell them,
"I wish to remain silent."
PERMANECE EN SILENCIO.
Tienes derecho a permanecer en silencio.
Si los agentes te hacen preguntas, diles:
"Deseo permanecer en silencio".

On December 9th, 1979, the World Health Organization officially declared smallpox eradicated. This historic achievement, marking the end of a disease that had plagued humanity for centuries, remains one of the greatest successes in global public health. #StayCurious #Skystorians #DiveIntoDiscovery
This image depicts a historic meeting of the Smallpox Eradication Committee during the 1970s, a pivotal gathering of international experts organized by the World Health Organization (WHO). The group of scientists, doctors, and policymakers represents the diverse coalition that worked tirelessly to achieve one of the greatest public health triumphs in history: the eradication of smallpox. In the photograph, the attendees are seated and standing before a world map, symbolizing the global scope of their mission. Smallpox, a devastating disease responsible for countless deaths and disfigurements over millennia, was finally defeated after a concentrated effort spanning decades.

This committee coordinated mass vaccination campaigns and introduced surveillance and containment strategies, which involved identifying outbreaks and isolating cases to prevent further spread. The photograph also reflects the spirit of international collaboration, with representatives from various nations and health organizations uniting to achieve a common goal. Their combined expertise and determination culminated in the certification of smallpox eradication in December 1979, following confirmation that the last known natural case occurred in Somalia in 1977. This image serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through global cooperation and scientific advancement, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of public health.This historic photograph captures a young woman receiving a smallpox vaccination during the final stages of the global eradication campaign. Taken on December 9, 1979, the day the WHO officially declared smallpox eradicated, the image highlights the critical role of vaccination in achieving this milestone. The healthcare worker shown administering the vaccine represents the countless individuals who played an essential role in the eradication effort, traveling across urban centers and remote regions to ensure widespread immunization coverage.

The photograph symbolizes the human determination and resilience that made this success possible. Smallpox vaccinations were central to the WHO’s strategy, which combined mass immunization with innovative “surveillance and containment” tactics to stop outbreaks. The campaign overcame immense challenges, including reaching rural and war-torn areas, managing vaccine supplies, and addressing public fears and misinformation about vaccination.

The eradication of smallpox marked the first time in history that a disease was eliminated on a global scale, saving millions of lives annually and demonstrating the profound impact of medical science and public health initiatives. This photograph captures the personal and human side of the monumental effort, serving as a testament to the dedication of healthcare workers and the enduring power of collaboration and innovation in addressing global challenges. It stands as a hopeful reminder of what is possible in the ongoing fight against infectious diseases.This cover from the May 1980 edition of World Health, the official magazine of the WHO, celebrates the official declaration of smallpox eradication. The bold yellow banner proclaiming “Smallpox is Dead!” dramatically crosses an image of the Earth, symbolizing the unprecedented global achievement. Smallpox, which killed millions of people annually for centuries, was declared eradicated after a coordinated, international vaccination campaign led by the WHO. This was the first—and remains the only—human disease to be eradicated globally, marking a monumental moment in medical and public health history.

The eradication of smallpox saved millions of lives and demonstrated the power of vaccination as a tool to combat infectious diseases. This achievement required immense global cooperation, overcoming logistical, cultural, and political challenges. The image of Earth on the cover reflects the universal effort, uniting countries and healthcare workers in the fight against a common enemy. It also serves as a reminder of the collective human capacity to solve complex problems through science, innovation, and collaboration. The declaration not only celebrated the end of smallpox but also inspired future efforts to combat other diseases, setting a precedent for global health initiatives.
