Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 03/08/2024I don't think I'm allowed to say this but I almost kind of like making game UIs! 000
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 03/08/2024Finally implemented rebinding of input keys in my game. This may not seem like much, but it turned out to be one of the most complex pieces of game UI I've made. Using input prompt icons by @kenney.bsky.social here kenney.nl/assets/input... 100
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 18/05/2024Making such "hexel art" is probably similar to making traditional pixel art in terms of techniques and approaches (can only guess, never done it before), except the only tool I have is the in-game editor I had to make myself. 000
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 18/05/2024Cursed art style: hexel art (pixel art on a hex grid). For each puzzle in my game I need to make two images: the puzzle itself (using between 1 and 4 colors from a predefined palette), and a full-color picture which is revealed when the puzzle is solved. #screenshotsaturday 361
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 05/05/2024A a side effect of these new mechanics is that they allow creating more difficult puzzles that are still small in size, which I really like. In classic picross / nonograms the puzzles usually have to be quite large to be challenging. 000
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 05/05/2024The original idea of my game was simply "picross on a hex grid", but it became much more than that. The new mechanics that I implemented add quite a bit of variety to the process of solving the puzzles (and I have ideas for even more). 110
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 05/05/2024How it started / how it's going. Lots of progress on my puzzle game recently. 021
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 29/10/2023I recorded a gameplay video of Hexograph, the puzzle game I'm making (picross-like on a hex grid) - I just finished migrating the game from Unity to Godot (well, most of it, still need to migrate the level editor). But since there are no videos here on the sky, imagine that this image is moving! 010
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 11/10/2023Belated #PortfolioDay: I'm a hobbyist game developer, and by "game developer" I mean that I've been mostly playing around with procedural terrain generation and voxel terrains, without really releasing anything (which I intend to change by focusing on small games). 040
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 13/09/2023Seriously though, I want to give Godot Engine a try, at least to broaden my knowledge of game development engines. Last year I spent some time with Unreal Engine and it wasn't that bad, although in the end I felt its learning curve is too steep. 000
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 13/09/2023Reading some Godot Engine documentation for no particular reason 👀 120
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 06/09/2023I'm halfway through reading John Romero's book Doom Guy: Life in First Person, and it's been a long while since the last time I've been that obsessed with reading a book (in any genre). Its topic is very close to my heart, it's very well written and incredibly inspiring. 000
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 04/08/2023To give an example, there are many ways the game can accept input: mouse-only (not using GUI buttons); single-button mouse + GUI buttons; mouse + keyboard shortcuts; keyboard only; gamepads; I'm even considering adding drawing tablet support. 000
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 04/08/2023One of my goals for this game is to make it as accessible as I can, including support for various control schemes, configurable assist options, color schemes and so on. 100
Icospheric @icospheric.bsky.social · 04/08/2023I've been working on and off on this puzzle game: a variation of picross / nonograms on a hex grid, with multi-colored puzzles and some original rules mixed in. It's shaping up pretty nicely, I might as well make a finished game out of it. I'm currently polishing game UI and adding more puzzles. 130
