That drawing is one of the first depictions of my silly fella from a newspaper in 1909. I tried to interpret the goofy stick-ness of the lower legs and arms as a more skin-over-bone look and I’m pretty pleased with the outcome so far.

Many things to look into. I now have a better iron and tin made for this use specifically since Christmas has passed (thanks grandma 🩵), better skills in Blender for editing the model files, and a new resin printer to potentially print it in more solid pieces before fixing them all together.

3) the plastics which were full plates on the original model are now bridges and no longer have the thickness and stability to hold up upon impacts (fell out of the car and broke 😭) 4) the battery system I’m using is incredibly inconvenient. I need to get a rechargeable pack with compatible voltage

On the road I came across some issues. 1) My soldering was awful, the whole thing was connected in parallel and the eyes kept dimming from a bad connection 2) the visor is wayyyy too transparent from the outside and needs much more dye

So, some deets on the Proto-suit. I’d taken the incomplete head with me to MFF (was planning on finishing it there but left the foam for ears at home, while thing there 😭) and discovered some issues with it mid travel. I had modified an M16 Studios MK3 base to retrofit my LED neons in. (Cnt below)

This has been an absolutely horrendous print but I’ll be damned before I let it die on me. I want to release the file for it so others can use it as an alt front plate for an M16 Mk3 Proto suit but I really need to figure some stuff out (like properly supporting everything) beforehand. The vacuum former holds a seal and looks like it will work! As for the new faceplate… it already failed once. Turns out you should really be thinking about support structure optimization when making something that big. I added some manual supports, and it (hopefully) has no issues now. Low on time!❄️

Not to mention this does involve a little soldering, but only to connect power in line through the eyes and mouth since they’ll be made from a single strip that’s cut in three pieces. Shouldn’t be too hard. Bonus is that this uses an existing M16 design so you can swap for an LED matrix plate later!

I really liked this idea because it’ll hopefully be more robust and give better visibility. There are way less electronics and the parts I’m using are mostly plug n’ play (fitting for a Protogen!) so maybe this would be easier for more people like me with little coding/electronics experience!

Whew, I was really nervous about designing a new face plate for an M16 mk3 back plate. The channels are for holding flexible neon light mimicking LED strips, it’ll be a static expression but that’s fine. I’ve not seen anyone else use them for a Proto suit, so I might be the first to try! ❄️

So, about that suit head. One of the key components I’m missing is a tinted visor. I have thermoplastic sheets and compatible dye, so as of now the hang up is building a thermoplastic vacuum former to stretch the plastic uniformly over a buck shaped like the visor. Currently puzzling that one out!

Fur swatches came in yesterday, all in all I ordered five yards of fur in a few colors. Last time shipping was pretty quick, let’s hope that’s the case with this order too. We’re uhh… kinda running on less than borrowed time at this point… 😅 It’ll be fine, I’m sure.
