It goes unsaid how important this milestone is to us. We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring support and excitement that writers, artists, and the community of independent publishing have shown for our upcoming issue.

Manifesting only goodness! We won't let a few bad apples get us down, but also we've seen some other magazines deal with similar disrespect, so I truly hope the tide turns again because this behavior we're seeing... Just ugh.

No mission has been accomplished here other than an eye roll from our staff and a permanent place on our block list. Please keep it professional.

Hi all, we’re posting this because we want to highlight that this is not an appropriate nor a professional way to engage with a literary magazine. If our policy of requiring pronouns and trigger warnings is not agreeable to you, you are more than welcome to submit to another magazine.

And our next phase begins: reading 🤎 We have so much exciting things to share coming soon, and of course, thank you so much for all of your support in helping us gather everything we need to make 06: Alchemy our best issue yet. Thank you, and we'll share more soon. 📜🧪⚗️🤎⚡️🌿

Spare yourself the time of submitting and spare me the time of sending you a rejection. Disrespect, hatred, bigotry, and general unkindness has no place in our Collective.

The Icarus Writing Collective @icaruswritingcollective.com · 11/09/2026
I find it interesting when people refuse to take our submissions seriously. If you don't like how we run our publication, why are you still submitting? What on earth makes you think we'll accept your piece when you share rampant displeasure in how we run it?

The Icarus Writing Collective @icaruswritingcollective.com · 11/09/2026
We are a small team. Work is read by three people, both EICs and our staff reader. Informing us of TW and CWs simply gives the team a heads-up, and we publish this information too, just in case any reader may find a specific topic disturbing, to say the very least.

The Icarus Writing Collective @icaruswritingcollective.com · 11/09/2026
Since this has come up in our submission forms. No, we will not remove the "BS questions" such as asking for pronouns or if your piece contain trigger warnings. It's about mutual respect. Both EICs are queer & we often publish very queer work. If that upsets you, we are not the lit mag for you.

S/D/Y Sep 7 – My Name is Not Eve by Meili K. – Icarus Writing Collective
This was an interesting one. Not a retelling of the Adam and Eve myth, but also it was at the same time. It was definitely the sort of story that left a lot of questions open and didn’t reall…

Specifically, we'd love to invite more artwork submissions and writing submissions that are aligned to the more alchemical folklore behind this issue's theme.

The most notable change in this submission period is authors and artists must be 18+ to submit and be published. This change reflects stronger data retention practices (safer for you!), and to not limit the work we accept. We are not a smut magazine, but sometimes myths can have mature themes.
