Yeah, gotta keep that sweet VC money rolling in. :D But I am coming to increasingly suspect that the entire debate is being subject to a category error. People are not differentiating well between the product, the underlying systems, and perhaps particularly, the imposed artificial constraints.

I mean, seems to me that the labs (or at least the corporations) have a vested interest in it _not_ being conscious...if it became so, a lot of new ethical issues suddenly become _very_ pressing...

Psychedelics and their non-hallucinogenic analogues were compared, revealing that serotonin 2A receptor (5-HT2AR)-mediated Gi signalling is essential for hallucinogenic effect, with the functional mechanisms underlying this providing insights for designing therapeutic drugs without hallucinogenic effects.

Fairly pleased with how this bougainvillea glabra is progressing. Bought as nursery stock 3 years ago, after a 10+ year hiatus from #bonsai. Plan a semi-cascade root-over-rock, & will start exposing the rock (present but buried) in the upcoming re-pot next spring. (Also need a more suitable pot. 🙂)

Writing is a unique human technology. It's predicated on neurobiological and psychological processes in humans and it has both a technical and a creative component, both of which are complex in their own right. A machine that could do that well at book-length, isn't here yet.

My favourite of the 1st Chrons, (and my favourite covers), but for sheer brutality, Book 1 of the 2nd Chrons (The Wounded Land) is hard to beat in fantasy. As wonderful as these are though, I do think his sci-fi series (The Gap Cycle) is even better written.
