"We don't want you to be punished for working hard". So I'm giving the well-off free childcare by letting staff go from Arts England and the Environment Agency, who clearly do need to be punished, especially if they don't find another job in 3 months the scroungers!

The Prime Minister has announced that emergency service workers, NHS staff, armed forces, education sector staff, council workers and the civil service are all going to get a guaranteed 2.5% pay rise every year going forward. Imagine the front page of the papers tomorrow if he'd said that?

Article comments across the land up in arms about the Social Care reforms that haven't been fully announced yet which basically boil down to "If people can't afford it, let them rot" knowing that those that can afford it will find a loophole to stop them having to pay for it.

Jim Ratcliffe, who was housed at UK taxpayers' expense, sent to a publicly funded grammar school, received a free university education and made his money buying assets from a former UK taxpayer-owned company has apparently "lost confidence in the UK." What more does he want from the UK?

"PGMOL is now called PRO REF. I don't think they're trying to be ironic!" Got to love Mark Chapman.

I presume there's nothing to stop the people of Clacton turning up to the Constituency Surgeries of local MP Nigel Farage dressed all in black and wearing balaclavas should they have a legitimate concern. Apart from the fact he doesn't host Constituency Surgeries of course.

IanTrem @iantrem.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
The real reason they've been told to wear the balaclavas.
Cutting from the Daily Telegraph from 8th September 2026 with a story about Nigel Farage saying his party will ban face coverings after the protests in Dover and Portsmouth. It's nothing to do with those protests, it's just his way of banning face coverings for religious reasons.

A great many people have 'legitimate concerns' about a great many subjects. However, I don't see people turning up in balaclavas and a need for a police presence at, for instance, a school PTA meeting.

I'll say this for the Reform party. It's leader and quite a few of it's leadership team are doing their best to get up close and personal with the crisis in our prisons.

I fear for the poor families about to endure a two hour train journey to Skegness with the family I'm sharing a train with to Nottingham. Not least because, at the end of it, they'll be in Skegness.

If you want to see just how fast these companies can move if their own money is at stake, try uploading a clip from a football match where another broadcaster has the digital rights, or new film, and see how quickly it gets zapped. That should be the benchmark for removing CSAM and disinformation.

I know they are only a few minutes to go, but the Emirates is emptying quicker when Arsenal are winning than the London Stadium when West Ham are losing.

Nigel Farage blaming the UK's ills on immigrants is like the Premier League's Richard Masters blaming all corruption in football on teams in the Dorset Senior League. Why can people see where the real issue is in football and not in the country?

Despite extra publicity on national TV and newspaper front pages, it seems that people now only put an X next to a Reform candidate's name as a protest vote in local elections. Will TV and the newspapers take this on board.

A number of WSL teams (and a few in WSL2) will be playing all their matches in their men's teams stadiums this season. Is someone checking to make sure they aren't paying over the odds for this and that ticket money stays with the women's team and neither are helping the men's team in terms of FFP?

Discussed yesterday with someone that there is a lot more emphasis on the new PM's "other half" than there has been on previous PMs. A case of the press keeping on digging until they find something? (something other than the North v South battle lines the Daily Mail are clinging to).

Kevin Keegan was probably my first footballing hero growing up. Absolutely delighted to meet him a few years ago and be able to tell him so, and find that he was a humble and very likable guy. RIP

Delighted for Saka. When he's allowed to play the way he can, he can be brilliant.

It's all going a bit Sunday League. Moments of brilliance followed by slapstick attacking It's nuts, and I'm loving it.

A week where one England manager is being chastised for being too cautious days after another England manager was sacked for being too reckless. And a lot of comments on the football manager's nationality from people who derided the abuse given to Rashford, Sancho and Saka in 2021.

IanTrem @iantrem.bsky.social · 15/07/2026
Every England player gave their all tonight, let down by a manager that hasn't moved us on from the last manager. You can get away with it against Mexico, but Argentina are a different class going forward. They were terrified of us until the manager fucked it up and handed it to them in a plate.

IanTrem @iantrem.bsky.social · 15/07/2026
I notice Argentina didn't go defensive when going ahead.

IanTrem @iantrem.bsky.social · 15/07/2026
Too deep, too early. Southgate got battered for going too defensive, why the f*ck did we go it against one of the best attacks in the world?

We are a matter of weeks away from the President of the United States of America being asked for his comments on his political ally in the UK running in an election against a bin. Of course, in the states it'll be referred to as a trashcan and then it'll go all Oscar the Grouch.

McCoist "It's a shirt pull on Mac Allister, but is it enough?" It was enough to deny Egypt their brilliant 2nd "goal".

"Middle Class Tax Raid" scream the Mail on Sunday "on home's over £1.5m" the story reports. "Will affect 150,000 families" it also says. "Mainly in the South East" it doesn't mention, because it doesn't want to be too open in it's "North v South" hatred of the presumptive new Prime Minister.

A local pub is showing the England game but has made it (free) tickets only (to make sure it's just the regulars i think). The Facebook post has three replies from bots saying that, because family members can't make it, they'll happily sell their spare tickets.

No pem for me. The ball's gone and the challenge had nothing to do with whether the player gets the ball or not.

Yet there are still people that don't rate Harry Kane. These knockout games have been competing to watch even if the football has been crap.

Cheers in the pub as Madaweke is taken off. Groans as, despite being a 53 year old half blind asthmatic with dodgy knees sitting 4,000 miles away, I was still a better option than Anthony Gordon.

From behind the goal, it looks like the attacker pushes the keeper with both hands, so foul off the ball, free kick, calm down Shearer. It would be chalked off every weekend if someone did that against a "big 6" keeper in the Prem.

Outside schools up and down the country, there will be people waiting in cars with the engines running and the air con turned up to full because if they don't get there an hour early, they don't get the best spot by the school gates.
