Mini kaiju movie where it's baby Godzilla vs a fishing village of like six old people and a dog. You are thinking "ah yes, they beat him by throwing him a birthday party" but no it's a gritty action movie and they have to use C4

I saw it once suggested it's like the Joker gets elected Mayor of Gotham City and puts the criminals in charge of their bureau of expertise, like Scarecrow runs the health dept, Poison Ivy the ag dept, Firefly the fire dept, Riddler as school superintendent, etc

Two-Face as the district attorney goes without saying but personally I'd like to see Catwoman running the museums

Yes the whole argument inexorably moves in this direction - endgame is Peter Watts' Blindsight universe where we're all just automata with consciousness glued on by mistake

The largest corpus of autochrome photographs (70k of them) comes from French baker Albert Kahn. Here are a couple of his photos from Morocco & Algeria, ca. 1913 & 1910. You can read more about him at the links below. publicdomainreview.org/essay/albert... mymodernmet.com/albert-kahn-...

Also they've gotten too fancy too quickly with the secondary typing, there's a lot of low-hanging fruit in classic stuff like Water/Ice or Grass/Poison. Why do we have three separate fire wrestlers and multiple wizards before just another big evil flower

I feel like it's weird when the starters are overly humanoid, not sure why but I think they should have animal body types. Like Incineroar has bad vibes

I think "religion true" is at least in the realm of possibility - I know I think that though, it's not an unexamined assumption

Someone in the group chat was like "have you seen this, needs damage control" and she got on top of it right away. Classic cult stuff, you put in an unreasonable amount of effort to track everything anyone says about you and try to make them sound crazy

Doing God's work here, really good to have this all in one place. It's sort of incredible to me how much influence Yudkowsky, one of the weirdest and most off-putting people of all time, has been able to accrue over this entire industry just by deciding he wanted a cult and putting the work in

As good a place as any to drop my GTA7 pitch, which is that the Mexican border runs straight through the middle of the map and you're a guy from Honduras who doesn't have a passport

GTA is actually weirdly uninterested in cars when you think about it. Like surely the main premise of every game ought to be that you're a Gone In 60 Seconds style car thief and you're in debt to a guy who runs a chop shop

Wait how come you never have to stop for gas in GTA. Would this be an interesting mechanic, like would it lead to explosive shootouts at gas stations and tense police chases where you have to escape before you go dry

The Hubbard comparison is apt for sure but the other guy I think he resembles is Karl Marx. Just hanging out in the reading room at the British Library working everything out from first principles, totally confident in his prophecies, zero interest in fielding input from anyone else

He's not dumb at all, he's an intelligent guy but he has contempt for the external world and sincerely believes he can fully predict the entire future course of human history just by sitting in a little room and thinking about it. Very solitary idea of what human reason can accomplish

He has a strategy where he's built up his own system of jargon and refuses to communicate in anything else - interlocutors are forced to adopt his framing, thus allowing him to control the flow of the conversation and avoid clarity around issues he doesn't want to address

Yud speaks very confidently due to his narcissism and produces a lot of plausible-sounding bullshit with little effort - this makes him sound like he's thought very deeply about the matter at hand. He's also pretty careful not to say anything that could actually be falsified

I always forget this since I was never a goon but SomethingAwful is the skeleton key for understanding a lot of bad internet behaviour. The whole strategy of inventing accusations that make your lolcow "deserve it" was perfected there

Sam Fuller said that in I Shot Jesse James he wanted to depict Jesse as a bisexual cross-dresser. Fuller claimed Jesse seduced soldiers so Frank James could rob & kill them. As outlandish as this sounds, Jesse James Jr. relays a similar story in his memoir (without the bisexual seduction)

I don't like the Yud/Bernie crossover, I feel like those compartments should have been kept separate. Sort of embarrassingly obvious that one persistent and highly online 25-year-old staffer is making the decisions
