New edition of England’s Dreaming just in! A ‘new’ cover by Derek Jarman - originally created for first edition (1991) but never used (the Faber box design). Also features new intro by me that inter alia gets my thoughts down about Malcolm McLaren. In the shops and online early November

Location tracking: ‘I can easily see where 80% of the people I know currently are’
We live in a world of surveillance. Our phones, our apps, security cameras and doorbells can track us. Does this enable or inhibit people’s development?

This genuinely depresses me. Few joys come close to a little baby shuffling backwards to plonk onto your lap while they carry a book they wanna hear you read. Deathbed regret in the making, man.

Also it's the third or fourth book in a series where the previous books are about exciting non occult adventures, like if the third James Bond novel suddenly revealed that Bond was an expert on Satanism and ritual magic.

I read the book it's based on. The film follows the plot quite closely but the book goes on after where the film ends and there's this long complicated plot about how they are trying to stop Mocata acquiring the Egyptian god Set's magic embalmed penis.

Eva Marie Saint, star of North by Northwest and On the Waterfront, dies aged 102
Landmark roles were in 50s classics directed by Elia Kazan and Alfred Hitchcock, before going on to play Superman’s adoptive mother in later life Eva Marie Saint, one of the last survivors of Hollywood’s golden age of the 1940s and 50s, has died aged 102. Her screen work spanned six decades: Saint made her screen debut opposite Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront, starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s celebrated thriller North by Northwest, and in one of her last screen appearances played Superman’s adoptive mother Martha Kent in the 2006 superhero film Superman Returns. Oh I don't mean all radio, just the news on Morning Ireland. I find Jeffrey Archer quite interesting. I read a book of his short stories once when I had nothing else to read and it was a lot better than I expected. I also get the impression he was very personally charming and knew how to use that.

It's odd hearing radio news reports on the death of Jeffrey Archer that do not feature the words "served two years in prison for perverting the course of justice".
