90% of "WooCommerce rental plugins" are appointment plugins wearing a costume. Rentals aren't appointments. You ship things. People keep them for days. They ship them back. The logistics are completely different.

Refunds are lose-lose. Customer waits 5-7 business days, you lose the sale forever. Store credit is win-win. Instant for them, retained revenue for you. As long as your customers come back regularly.

I agree this move sucks and you shouldn't change the terms of a deal so directly. But the framing here: calling ~$1 a site price gouging is so silly. This is why I think unlimited licenses are always a trick. Not quite as bad as lifetime, but still never really real.
