Hey everyone, a new reason to object to EVs just dropped!
BBC NEws notification: ‘EV drivers love their cars, but they make some passengers feel sick - this could be why’

Key point here. ~90% of EV drivers can charge at home today but 40% of UK households cannot charge at home. Showing clearly those households are not making the switch and that addressing cost of public EV charging is a major fairness issue.
Public charging points remain significantly more expensive than domestic rates. However, the UK government estimates that around 90% of electric car charging takes place at home.

When I joined Bluesky a few people followed me as a heat pump 'expert' as I was on someone's starter pack. I did not, however, actually have one myself. Until today 🥳 Five months from moving in we're a gas free house. ⚡️ Solar, battery, EV charger coming next week. #ElectrifyEverything

This is the insight from the polling we commissioned I'm most struck by. Three quarters of 18-24 year olds want the EV transition to keep pace or speed up. 53% of over 65s think it should slow down. In a democracy all views matter. But climate policies affect some generations more than others.

30% BEV market share seen in the @newautomotive.org figures last week also reflected by SMMT's. Still 'below ambition' though apparently, despite electric being a quarter of sales YTD. Don't be fooled by the 33% ZEV Mandate target for this year, the flexibilities mean the real target is 24%.

Interesting graphic from the FT showing share of new car sales by fuel type across markets. UK pretty mid-pack, sharing a growing hybrid problem with France and Germany. Note Norway, Netherlands and China not using this supposed 'bridge' to the same extent. The US needs to get with the game.

Nice to see petrol catch up to what the EV charging industry's been doing for years. 😉
Department for Energy Security and Net Zero LinkedIN post announcing: "Our Fuel Finder scheme mandates all UK petrol stations to report their prices, helping households with a car find the best deals and save around £40 a year.

Apps and websites are now displaying real time fuel prices, meaning drivers can find the cheapest fuel at stations close to them."

So many questions. Has Dorian been accused by our thoroughly pleasant MP Sarah? What led Dorian to the decision that taking an ad out to repeat the allegation was a good idea? Why did the magazine take his money?

Shameful that we’ve allowed a majority of the UK to become confused about what to believe on climate change. But it seems the cartoon is holding true.
Cartoon of a climate summit where a presenter has listed all the benefits of decarbonisation (energy independence, clean air, healthy children etc) and someone in the audience asks ‘what if it’s a box hoax and we create a better world for nothing?’

The UK's top ten selling cars of 2025 is conclusive proof that the UK public has terrible taste in cars and we should be telling them what to buy not selling them what they think they want.

I know we’re all worried about the energy used by Google and other digital services but I’m not sure asking the Transport Minister your question in parliament instead is a better use of resource.
Richard Holden MP asked the Secretary of State for Transport where he can find the latest EV charging figures at local authority level in parliament.

There’s something so insane about the OBR’s website being run on Wordpress. The number of times I’ve double and triple checked the scheduling of a relatively inane blog post because I don’t trust the time zone setting. And that is literally what tripped up the UK’s fiscal regulator last week?!

Not the biggest EV misinformation problem we face, but media's image choices can't be helping consumer confusion. Story about cross pavement home charging... accompanied by a pic of an ultra rapid motorway charging hub. "Is my street going to start looking like a motorway service station now?"

I find it bizarre that there are lots of progressives on X calling for a boycott of Tesla. Are they not aware of the irony of where they are posting this? Tesla, albeit the biggest source of Musk's wealth, isn't wholly owned by him. And isn't an online platform designed to spread hate.

This @thetimes.com chart isn't too bad at showing the petrol/electric charging cost differential. It misses a major nuance — most EV drivers don't exclusively charge at home, slow or rapid, but a mix. And 7,500 miles per year is lower than average. Pence per mile would be a more useful axis.
Chart titled 'No driveway? No savings' showing yearly running cost of electric v petrol cars dependent on where you charge. Chart shows costs over time of a home EV tariff, slow public charger, fast public charger and petrol assuming 7,500 miles driven per year.

I imagine it was some skeptic think tank or Reform/Tory spad who fed him the story in the first place. This is quite amusing at least. Fails to mention the historical record of Dieter Helm being massively wrong about everything he claims to be an expert on.
Oxford University’s Professor Dieter Helm has said that estimates on the impacts of renewable energy have historically overlooked the cost of preventing issues surrounding unreliable weather, for example.

Very disappointing to see @cityam.bsky.social / @mauriciofca.bsky.social go in for this solution denial. That's not what they said, is it? The point made was that the high cost of electricity *DRIVEN BY GAS AND LEVIES* currently *CAN* make low carbon tech running on electricity more expensive.

NEA and FPA absolutely right here - removing standing charges in this way doesn't help the vulnerable. But I'm not sure what they expected. I'll tell you who it does help - second home owners and landlords with empty properties.
"What Ofgem is proposing is more to hide standing charges within the unit rates, even allowing energy firms to charge more for the first units of energy which is completely the opposite from what we actually need," said Jonathan Bean, from campaign group Fuel Poverty Action.
Peter Smith, from charity National Energy Action, said the system would still be unfair and impact on the most vulnerable.
"We are particularly worried pre-payment meter customers may be left racking up increasingly unaffordable charges, which will continue to need to be repaid in full before they can turn on the lights or run a warm bath for their children," he said.

Is this a watering down, as the Telegraph is inevitably reporting? It was always a bit up for debate what '100% clean power' actually meant - on one day in 2030? One hour? 'At least 95% of generation' would still achieve that. A softening of language, yes. Just intent meeting practicality?
