📢 New eCSC paper out in @lancetgh.bsky.social www.thelancet.com/journals/lan... 👁️ Progress towards the 2030 global target is lagging, more investment in quality cataract services is needed urgently. 👁️ Launched at same time as @who.int guidance on cataract care quality: iris.who.int/handle/10665...
Modelled eCSC6/18 among people aged 50 years and older globally and by WHO region in 2000–30.

Figure from eCSC publication with seven plots, one for each WHO region and one global. Each plot shows predicted trend lines for eCSC between 2000 and 2030 in men (blue) and women (red). There are no trend lines for the European region. All WHO regional plots also show empirical eCSC estimates per year as blue dots.

A simple pair of glasses transformed Nguyen’s life; sharpening her vision, boosting her confidence, and bringing joy to everyday moments. On #WorldSightDay, her story is a reminder that basic eye care isn’t a luxury, it is a fundamental right 👉 bit.ly/4odWmRP
Graphic showing Nguyen, a factory worker, sitting at a sewing machine and smiling. Text reads: “Nguyen, a factory worker with over two decades on the sewing line, found even routine tasks challenging as her eyesight began to deteriorate.”Graphic with orange background and text: “Nguyen’s life changed with a simple pair of eyeglasses. Clear vision transforms both work and daily life. It’s not just about being able to see. It’s about dignity.” Includes a small circular photo of Nguyen smiling while wearing glasses.

These are some ambitious 10-year targets for #primarycare #optometry in England. Scotland - a smaller and more uniform health system - has been at this for 20 years, with decent govt funding committed to optometry at certain points, and still has a way to go. Aim high I guess!
