Basically, the bet board in Cabin in the Woods:
Screenshot of the movie Cabin in the Woods, where the characters are looking at a giant whiteboard of all the possible demises their victims could suffer. *Spoiler alert* by the end of the film, all of the creatures have escaped and killed everyone on-screen.

I'm so old... I think the last game I put any serious time into was Portal 2 💀

Most Canadian experience: opening your garage door to leave for work and there's a moose on the driveway...
Photo of a city residential street with two houses and driveways visible. In front of one house's lawn, there isa moose, approximately six feet tall, walking with an extreme absence of chalance, down the right side of the street. The moose is now moving at a slightly faster pace down the neighbourhood street, as if embarrassed to be caught out in the suburbs.

"Women aren’t resisting AI—they’re recognizing risks that many organizations have yet to address." "Women’s concerns should not be dismissed; they offer valuable insight into the risks AI can create without sufficient safeguards." Reasonable responses to AI. www.fastcompany.com/91584377/wom...
These biases stem from how AI works. LLMs do not generate new knowledge. Instead, they predict each word fragment based on enormous collections of preexisting text, prioritizing linguistic fluency. Because datasets often reflect historical and societal biases, AI can reproduce and amplify them. While an AI sentence may be well written and sound confident, it may be factually incorrect and perpetuate stereotypes. Beyond bias, the risks of AI are not evenly distributed. Privacy is one example. Because generative AI systems can retain user inputs, it is often unclear what information is stored, how it may be used, or how to prevent one’s data from training the AI model. That uncertainty can make sharing sensitive information feel risky. These concerns are reflected in how women use AI. Survey research has found that women are significantly less interested than men in relying on generative AI for personal matters like finances, relationships, or health, suggesting they are more sensitive to entrusting AI to handle deeply personal information.

Finally got around to reading @emilytesh.net 's Some Desperate Glory & now I know why everyone was raving over it. I was expecting a mature version of Sanderson's "Skyward" series, but it's much more. What is the cost of personal choice? What if you had a chance to undo your worst mistake? So good!

On RFK Jr's new cooking show: "a rich person’s solution to a poor person’s problem" where $18 portions somehow come out to $4.91 a person when you exclude all the incidental purchases needed to actually make the food. wapo.st/4z16hjL 🎁
But there’s something that feels slightly off with the assumption baked into the premise of this show. The assumption is that typical Americans don’t eat healthily because they don’t know how — because they don’t know that salmon is a smarter choice than a Happy Meal, or that a salad with a squeeze of lemon juice is lower-calorie than a bucket of ranch.

People do know this, though. And people who have to budget their groceries are often ingenious cooks, creative and resourceful, finding ways to stretch odds and ends into sustenance and joy.

It’s not that recipes are “overly intellectual.” It’s often the fact that food is 33 percent more expensive than it was seven years ago

This one specifically? Because in the art of investigation, this is hard to beat:
Batman Forever (1995)

Bruce Wayne: "We're 5 little items of an everyday sort. You'll find us all in a tennis court". In... A-E-I-O-U. Vowels.

Alfred Pennyworth: Not entirely unclever, sir, but what do a clock, a match, chess pawns, and vowels have in common? What do these riddles mean?

Bruce Wayne: Every riddle has a number in the question and they arrived at this order: 13, 1, 8, and 5.

Alfred Pennyworth: 13, 1, 8, and 5. What do they mean?

Bruce Wayne: Perhaps letters of the alphabet?

Alfred Pennyworth: Of course, 13 is M.

Bruce Wayne: 1 would be A, 8 would be H, and 5 would be E.

Alfred Pennyworth: M-A-H-E.

Bruce Wayne: Perhaps 1 and 8 are 18.

Alfred Pennyworth: 18 is R. M-R-E.

Bruce Wayne: How about Mr. E.?

Alfred Pennyworth: Mystery.

Bruce Wayne: And another name for mystery?

Alfred Pennyworth: Enigma.

Bruce Wayne: Mr. E. Nygma. Edward Nygma. Stickley's suicide was obviously a computer-generated forgery.

Alfred Pennyworth: You really are quite bright, despite what people say.

I thought this would be an appropriate shirt to wear to go see The Odyssey today 😁

Showed my kids The Cutting Edge l last night, after the Olympic closing ceremony. For a 90s sports romantic comedy, it holds up pretty well. I had a chuckle when I saw the screenwriter was Tony Gilroy, whose more recent credits include Rogue One and Andor.

I actually hope this map was AI-generated because if a human was involved in its creation...
A map with Alberta, Canada prominently highlighted. To its west are, apparently, British Columbia (correct) and Montana (incorrect) and to its east is Northwest Territories (incorrect since the formation of Alberta and Saskatchewan in 1905). There is also a province/state level label that says Medicine Hat, which is a small city in Alberta. The placement of the cities and lakes appears random. The caption below the image says "Saskatchewan".

If Canada is serious about putting the hurt on Trump & his enablers to push back against his made-up-on-the-fly tariffs, we should be implementing Cory Doctorow's ( @pluralistic.net.web.brid.gy ) suggestion, detailed at pluralistic.net/2025/02/26/u... Make Canada a haven for disenshittification!
Abolish the Canadian laws that protect US Big Tech companies from Canadian competition. Make it legal to reverse-engineer, jailbreak and modify American technology products and services. Don't ask Facebook to pay a link tax to Canadian newspapers, make it legal to jailbreak all of Meta's apps and block all the ads in them, so Mark Zuckerberg doesn't make a dime off of us.

Make it legal for Canadian mechanics to jailbreak your Tesla and unlock every subscription feature, like autopilot and full access to your battery, for one price, forever. So you get more out of your car, and when you sell it, the next owner continues to enjoy those features, meaning they'll pay more for your used car.

That's how you hurt Elon Musk: not by being performatively appalled at his Nazi salutes. That doesn't cost him a dime. He loves the attention. No! Strike at the rent-extracting, insanely high-margin aftermarket subscriptions he relies on for his Swastikar business.
