The image really captures the high speed at which the event would occur. I can't begin to imagine the bravery of having to do that manoeuvre. (Polish sqdn by the looks of the tail flash).

He'll not be walking through the gap in those trees with antlers like that! (I wonder if stags worry about the width of theirs?)

obvs i love that story, imagine figuring out the circumference of the Earth. this is how woide the earth is, everybody, just so we're all clear

How Eratosthenes Measured The Earth's Circumference With A Stick In 240 BCE, At An Astonishing 38,624 Kilometers
Though the exact length of a "stadia" is unknown, his measurement is thought to be accurate to within one percent of the actual circumference of the Earth.

Man in a gilet stood on platform 12 gives up on reading the display and asks ChatGPT out loud if he is on the right platform for his train. I don’t want to be dramatic about it but Eratosthenes figured out the circumference of the Earth using a stick and knowledge of a distant well.

Have you read the Scotland on Sunday article? It paints a fairly bleak picture following last week's Floating Offshore Wind conference.

That kind of fantasy art has just gone entirely. A shame as it had a folk-horror edge to it.

I've spent some time last night and this morning looking at Trump's Russian diesel announcement. Putting the political implications aside for a moment, I wanted to work through the cargo involved and see if I can determine the operational impacts. The numbers are revealing.

I read a bit of it through my local library, but it was a bit too chocks away (middle class) for 10/12yo me. I preferred Braddock, who I think was a sergeant-pilot.

I often see posts on reddit from people who say they know the code but don't know what to do. I think that this statement clipped in below provides an answer to their problem - you need to have an idea of what you want to do and how it is supposed to work. To develop those ideas you need to think.

If people are doing that, then my guess is that they're playing fantasy football for the brag and not for the challenge. That would not be my goal but there's plenty of things people do to brag about it to their pals.

I've met two people in my life who manage a to-do list well. My wife and a guy that I've worked on & off with for 20y. The rest of us deal with a single list of spinning plates.

I'm guessing that it's lines of slip between the fresh water coming down the Tay and the tide. Low Tide was abt 2pm so the speed at which the tide is going out is close to zero at the time of your post. The river is deepest at the Dundee side so that's flowing quicker than the water on the estuary.

My mum was always the DM when we played AD&D. She called bags of holding Birkin bags. I saw a Hermès shop in Paris and asked about a Birkin bag of holding. After explaining, the assistant laughed me out of the shop. I was only 12 and still believed in magic.

That is interesting. By not being under the floor the cross-sectional area would be smaller and that might reduce drag. Another thing is that the would move the CoG forward and up a bit.

Have you watched the American Revolution documentary (exec producer Ken Burns?). It's on the iplayer and I recommend it highly. That was also a revelation in many ways, starting with the idea that it was British v Americans. It's more complicated than that.
