Impressed how our lawn has gone from "burnt to a crisp desert hellscape" to "I hate your luxuriant growth requiring twice a week mowing" in a month.

Did a jolly 70 mile cycle to Warmington. All the way I was convinced I had a hair in my eyes which with my covering is very unlikely. Much brushing and rubbing could not clear the feeling. Blamed the wife. But no. It was a stray eyebrow hair. At least it wasn't an ear tuft. #OldCyclists #Cycling

Why have we let the lunatics take over the asylum? And why is the Asylum Broadcasting Corporation OK with it? What's wrong with being sane and decent?

Weird (but good) NHS experience today. Mrs S got a call from the doctors' assistant about 2pm. Nothing major but an elevated indicator in a blood test. Wanted to make an appointment next week, which was a problem. Got a phone appointment at 3:30. They wanted an ultrasound scan.

Nationwide just linked up with Equifax. Being retired, my position is unexceptional, but the two items stopping me from having a perfect credit score are that I don't have a mortgage at 67 and I don't have a bundle of unsecured loans. Thank you for your insightful analysis. #CreditScore

Is it only me who can remember when the default position of the BBC would have been outrage at masked thugs interfering with our daily lives, regardless of the cause?

Is there just one episode of ST:TNG where the safety protocols on the holodeck actually work? Truly it is the Tesla FSD of 24th century technology. #AFistFullOfDatas #STTNG

What is it with BMW drivers? There was a bad accident near Droitwich on the A38, looked like someone didn't want to slow for a roundabout and played skittles with the queue. Civilians were marshalling traffic, but Mr BMW wanted to jump the queue. 1/2

In a week where the numbers are in and London ULEZ has been shown to make a major improvement in health, there are still nutjobs putting up YouTube videos explaining how to destroy ULEZ cabinets. What's the betting that a lot of people end up losing their broadband instead? #ulez #CriminalDamage

Having ditched Amazon, eBay is the next easiest option for odds and ends but getting increasingly annoyed with sellers purporting to be UK (I set a filter to refuse foreign suppliers) who are actually Chinese shippers and instead of getting something in a few days, it's a couple of weeks.

Well, literacy seems to be the biggest safety issue around here given that I'm listening to a large firework display somewhere just south of Solihull. But that message got read out as well, so a fundamental IQ problem. #fire #fireworks #tinderbox

It pleases me to be added to the AI haters moderation list. It also tells me that it's a cult. Nobody in a cult wants to be told that they might not be making their best life choices.

Inspired by an American post, is there anywhere in the UK that still has alternate side parking depending on the day of the week, or has that gone the way of dashed yellow waiting marks? Probably from the days when we had road sweepers more than once a year. @rantyhighwayman.bsky.social

I think after 4 attempts and two written statements over a week that I will not be held liable for any costs, Johnsons Skoda Solihull have finally accepted that I really did want to cancel the appointment. I'm expecting a phone call chasing me to attend on Wednesday.

I would just like one bike ride without a near-death experience. Today's report is a driver who approached at 40mph in a 30, and just before the junction attempted to pass. He didn't notice the central bollard so naturally took the softest route to evade it - me. #ClosePass #Cycling
Rear view of a van leaving about a metre between kerb and van approaching a junction with central bollard.Front view of a van closing the space leaving less than a metre at the front wheels where I will be in less than a second. The front wheels are pointing slightly left.

A young girl has had a tumour removed. The news that it is non-cancerous has been welcomed with a flurry of power of prayer claims amongst friends. Are they saying prayer made God convert the tumour from cancerous to not? That God would have killed a child in revenge for not being prayed to? Hmm.

Would you report these? Walker in road, no footpath, 40mph B road. First car slows but barely deviates, does not cross double whites. Second car gives a metre but does not slow much, and did not wait for me to pass, splitting the difference. HWC 163 2 metres and slow. #Walking #HWC

London has shown that with enforcement & cajoling, the truck industry can provide drivers with the visibility they need. I hate it when I see blame for people putting themselves in lorry blind spots. In 2026, there is no reason for a driver not to be completely aware of their surroundings.

Having had a new EV for just under a month, I have concluded that the current memes about "Give me a 20 year old car that doesn't nag" is a way of outing those people incapable of driving in a straight line within the speed limit. I haven't had to switch things off to make it bearable.

I think we are dividing into 3 or 4 camps of drivers: 1. Highway Coders, those who accept the HWC and intend to abide by it. 2. The vague and incompetent. They are ignorant of the HWC, are simply not engaged with driving as a skill but not intentionally driving illegally, cause havoc. 1/2

My regular but basic household cooking is driven by precision timing, knowing how long things come to the boil, how long things need to fry for on my hob. But the one thing I can never rely on is the time needed to remove the film from the fish packet.

It wouldn't be unreasonable for countries to resign from FIFA until their corrupt governance is resolved, would it? How do you stay in an organisation so blatantly run for profit and political interest rather than for the fame? #FIFA #Corruption

At home we just had a card from #RoyalMail to say they were improving the second class service by reducing it to alternate day delivery. Meanwhile in Abingdon 5 year old got his first class birthday cards all delivered on Saturday - exactly one week after his birthday. All posted early.

I despair of car reviewers. The "best feature" of the revised Renault Mégane is not the improved range or charging time, nor the styling that makes no difference to making it a safer drive, but the "ventilated Qi phone charger." I think I know why the UK car market is so unrelated to its needs.

Just watching series 6 of Voyager and what really comes across is how imaginative they are. Doctor daydreams and this is intercepted; 7 revives race from stasis after 900 years; find a Mars spaceship from the 21st century in a spacial anomaly; sentient craft takes over Tom. No story arc handcuffs.

Having a car review phase and the really annoying thing that they all casually dismiss speed limit assistance with it being "easy to cancel, which is great." Why can't a reviewer say "This limiting system worked well, kept the car driving legally at all times." or "This one needs improvement."? 1/2

Well, that was traumatic. Convinced myself I had been driving uninsured since September when I couldn't find my policy in my emails, then I mistyped my VIN into AskMID and it came up uninsured. Total brain fade - a nice lady at Lloyds pointed me to Co-op (ithe same insurers, different brand). 1/2

I like it when people don't seem to know what happened when people had their good idea before - one of the most infamous races in F1 history. And that didn't even use a full oval. Indianapolis 2005.

Not impressed with theLegal Ombudsman. The firm has described in writing a defective title as Title Absolute, had never given any advice on resolving the defects, yet the LO can't bring themselves to do anything but accept the solicitor's contention they had done decent work. Back to the SRA?

Well that was a first world nightmare. Car punctured on arrival at hotel. Rang RAC at 4pm. Got a time to fix of 6-8pm. Then at about 7 it became 10pm-1am. Then got a new time of 8:50pm-10:50pm & a text from 3rd party but no further contact. Chased, eventually another text arrived. 1/3

I was chatting to our bathroom fitter a while ago and it turned out he was called Lea because the registrar's writing was a bit wobbly and everyone decided the name on the certificate said Lea not Lee so that is what he must be called for evermore. #OddNames
