ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I have not, since 2012, had a WordPress developer job with an in-office attendance requirement. The ability to work remotely was a core feature of the culture. I think it’s weird to try and tell a WP developer that your job has any justification for an in-office requirement in the year 2026. 000
ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 16/08/2026I have never worked at any FAANG companies, but we’ve had them as clients at my job, and one thing I did for years was maintain a sustainably blog for Meta. Seems kind of ridiculous now. 000

ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 16/06/2026I feel like I’ve been thrown into a lot of projects in my career that had either very little or outdated documentation, and it its weird to see all these new AGENTS md files, with simple English descriptions of how the project code is supposed to work, but written for robot developers instead of me. 020

ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 01/06/2026I will say again… I am completely baffled as to how these companies have convinced themselves anyone is going to pay for this when any decent Mac laptop can do inference for free with local models. 000
ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 25/05/2026It's kind of incredible how much Apple hates power users. I used to love collecting music with iTunes and organizing my photos with Aperture, but now both of the iOS era replacements are just stripped down versions of these decade old apps, with worse UX and missing features. 100

ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 20/05/2026The State of AI survey results are out. Developers are using AI more, paying more for it, admit that they have to fix and refactor generated code all the time, agree that it’s probably making them worse developers, but seem to think this is all worth it for the perceived increase in productivity.2026.stateofai.devState of AI 2026 000

ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 23/04/2026Every single front end engineer has had a client ask for a carousel, explained to the client why a carousel UI is bad, had to build the carousel anyway, and then been asked remove it a few months later. A universal experience. 000
ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 23/04/2026I do not know what is more frustrating: VS Code trying to correct and second guess every line of code when I try to move a quote character around, or now… refusing to do any form of type-ahead code completions unless I pay for Co-Pilot Pro. 100
ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 18/04/2026At one point I realized that a lot of my homebrew projects are just tools to curate my digital media intake without having to deal with algorithms: a bandcamp inbox manager, a long format video browser, an RSS feed aggregator, etc. I think there's good stuff on the internet, just let me find it. 000

ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 09/04/2026Extremely wild takes on the LinkedIn timeline today. ian-pvd @ian-pvd.bsky.social · 05/02/2026I don’t think I understand the appeal of DuckDuckGo. If I search for “table layouts” I want the search engine to know I’m a designer or developer, and not looking for a guide to etiquette.
