I haven't really watched anime shows seriously since I was 15 or 16 years old, but here is a list that represents my development over childhood. Row 1 is ages 6-9, Row 2 is 10-12, Row 3 is 13-15. Monster is the only exception, I watched that like 10 years ago and liked it when I was in my 20s.

Listening to punk with my daughter this morning and “Anarchy in the UK” comes on. My 7yo daughter immediately asks me “who is this?” I say “The Sex Pistols,” and she replies “it sounds like the mom from bobs burgers.” Now I can’t unhear it 😅

Went to see a “mystery (family) movie” at my local movie theater. The woman who took our tickets gave us a death stare and said “it’s rated pg” on our way in. The movie was Shaun the sheep.

my main piece of advice to aspiring video essay type youtubers is: Make less ambitious claims. You don't NEED to tell me about the direction of society as a whole. You don't even need to tell me a big story about how some person or text is all one way or all another way. just tell me what u see

pasting my thoughts here from elsewhere but ; gachas and mmo's operate under the same core principles, maybe even most multiplayer games at this point. they are designed from the ground up as a way to retain you as long as possible (ideally forever) in a way that preys on addictive personalities

Slay the Princess - I don't like "meta" games. I went into this one blind and when I discovered it had no real story I knew I wouldn't like it. That's on me. It just doesn't feel real or human in any meaningful way. I find stories about stories to be drivel.

Infinite - I think that most people (with good taste?) agree this game has aged poorly. I loved the marketing campaign before it released, but I didn't like the first game much and this game is just worse on all fronts.

Now, for a meta critique of my own critiques: RDR2 - I don't like open world games, particularly this formula of open world game. Playing it feels like my brain is being pushed away from the fun. I know this game is beloved for a reason.

i live in Milwaukee county and have voted for him. He is alright on lgbtq rights and supportive of the community. That said, while he’s tolerable on personal rights, he’s more of a pro-business and moderate kind of dem. Think Biden or Obamaesque.

So many well-received roguelikes I've tried lately ask me to care deeply about a 2% increase in some stat. You can't make me care about 2 or 5 or 10% increase in anything! Isaac was perfect when random shit happened every time you pick up an item. I wish more games followed suit.

It's easy to imagine young kids won't get what's going on, and often they don't, but tonight we watched "Family," with only scenes of people talking. As I took her to bed, my daughter was talking about when Picard breaks down in tears and "let out his sad (rather than keep it in)." Kids are smart!

Yeah. I did play Consume Me! earlier this year and that was lovely. I'm probably not being selective enough with what I'm choosing to try (tho, it can be difficult to pick something that needs investment when I know my kids are going to interrupt me every 5-10 minutes!)

With more parties, the political power of LGBTQ rights folks would probably be more diluted than it is in the current two-party system. On the other hand, one of the two parties have made attacking trans people their calling card. One has to wonder if that would be as effective in another system.

The two party system's relationship to trans rights is pretty interesting, actually, and it's kind of hard to say whether or not it has hurt trans people. On the pro-two-party system side, the majority of dems have kept the party line over the last 10 years, even as trans issues remain unpopular.

In middle school I walked to the library every day to hang out with friends. Libraries still exist tho. I feel like today’s parents wouldn’t let their 12 year old walk directly from school to a library a mile away with no cellphone and only the tacit agreement that mom would pick you up around 5.

My daughter asked why we don't fly an American flag the other day. I told her evil people run our country and bombed a school killing girls like her. We then talked about racism and slavery. I don't know why anyone would be proud to fly the fucking flag. (disclaimer: I'm not black, but my kids are)

Absolutely, it's not a possibility for most parents 😔. My kids are foster children, so they get priority in public school placement, otherwise I doubt they would have gotten into the (quite small!) montessori school. I wish everyone had more choice to avoid screens in school more easily.

It's absolutely a valid reason to bounce. My soon-to-be-second grader's old school had "WIN" (aka screen time) as a class, and they also used it as a reward for good behavior. I argued passionately about it and they stopped having that class for her. Glad she's at a (public) Montessori school now.
