I agree with you. My point was that he could fail and convince his followers he was successful regardless of the evidence that states otherwise. I honestly don't understand how people can fall for his lies.

Introducing...your sneak peek at the cosmos captured by NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory! Can you guess these regions of sky? This is just a small peek...join us at 11am US EDT for your full First Look at how Rubin will #CaptureTheCosmos! 🔭🧪 #RubinFirstLook ls.st/rubin-first-look-livestream
A sprawling, textured field of galaxies scattered across the deep black of space. It is filled with the delicate smudges and glowing cores of galaxies of many shapes, sizes and colors, as well as the bright multi-colored points of stars. The image focuses on a collection of interacting galaxies connected by delicate streams of stars. At top center lies a large elliptical galaxy that is dense and smooth, like a polished stone glowing with golden light. Like delicate spider silk or stretched taffy, these stellar bridges link the large elliptical to the few larger galaxies beneath, evidence of past collisions.

All throughout the image, thousands of galaxies gather in clusters or are spread throughout, like glittering gems strewn on a table. Some are sharp-edged and spiral, like coiled ribbons; others round and diffuse, like polished pebbles. Still others are just smudges of various colors against the black of space. The background is peppered with pinpoint stars in reds, yellows, and blues, crisp against the velvet black. A cosmic tapestry of glowing tan and pink gas clouds with dark dust lanes. In the upper right, the Trifid Nebula resembles a small flower in space. Its soft, pinkish gas petals are surrounded by blue gas, and streaked with dark, finger-like veins of dust that divide it into three parts. It radiates a gentle, misty glow, diffuse and soft like the warmth of breath on a cold hand. To the lower left, the much larger Lagoon Nebula stretches wide like a churning sea of magenta gas, with bright blue, knotted clumps sprinkled throughout where new stars are born. Both nebulae are embedded in a soft tan backdrop of gas that is brighter on the left than on the right, etched with dark tendrils of dust and sprinkled with the pinpricks of millions of stars.A sprawling, textured field of galaxies scattered across the deep black of space. It is filled with the delicate smudges and glowing cores of galaxies of many shapes, sizes and colors, as well as the bright multi-colored points of stars. To the lower left is a region filled with the hundreds of golden glittering gems of a distant galaxy cluster. In the foreground, below and right of center, two blue spiral galaxies look like eyes beneath the entangled mass of a triple galaxy merger in the upper right. A few bright blue points of foreground stars pierce the glittering tapestry.

we live in an age where we regularly get photos like these from the surface of OTHER planets and this admin still wants to defund space science.
A Martian sunset. The sky appears blue/grey with the Sun setting behind the mountains appearing as a small white/blue dot in the sky.Astronomical twilight on Mars, including the moon Deimos. Taken by the Engineering Cameras aboard the Perseverance Rover. In the foreground -- about 2 miles (3 kilometers) from the rover -- is a long ridge teeming with hematite, an iron oxide. Just beyond is an undulating plain rich in clay minerals. And just beyond that are a multitude of rounded buttes, all high in sulfate minerals. Further back in the image are striking, light-toned cliffs in rock that may have formed in drier times and now is heavily eroded by winds.Drifting clouds appear on the right side of the screen in the grey Martian sky with the outline of the mountains and horizon underneath.

So, someone comes to your door and identifies themselves as a LEO - possible outcomes, in the current US state of affairs: 1) Open the door, get assassinated 2) Resist arrest, get arrested 3) Get disappeared by ???

You live in a time when you can see our Universe like this. The current U.S. administration wants to gut science and stand in the way of our next steps in understanding where we came from. Call your Senators and Representatives. Tell them to save U.S. scientific leadership. To save science.

Yes I hope we can solve this without fighting. People will be laying dead in the streets if fighting happens. If we must fight though, we fight for our rights and freedoms. They fight to oppress people. We have everything to gain if we win, they only lose their "rights" to be bad people.

Progressives always win while conservatives stand on the wrong side of history. We won the revolutionary war - they fought for the British. We won the civil war - they fought against the Union. We won the civil rights movement - They fought against it. We will win. We always do.

The only place fascism has in the future is in the history books. Fascists deserve no mercy because they show no mercy to those they target.

Anyone who isn't straight, white, and isn't loyal to the party will be a target. Once fascist run out of people to blame they will find a new group of people to torment. This is why fascism anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere and must be eradicated

To get pardoned don't they have to release their names? If so a pardon will only keep them from legal repercussions, their names will be public knowledge. Something they are absolutely terrified about happening. It's why they're wearing masks.

Putin needs to be hanged for his crimes. Democracy must be tough on dictators as dictators ARE tough on democracies. Authoritarianism anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere and needs to be eliminated. Democracy is a fragile system that dictators will topple at the very first opportunity.

So we just keep burning fossil fuels then? What's the solution? Wait 20 years for a fusion reactor to become commercially available? What do you think is the best power source we currently have that can produce consistent power?
100
iamcatts.bsky.social @iamcatts.bsky.social · 02/06/2025
Fusion reactors are still being developed. Nuclear is available now. We don't need a perfect solution at this time, we just need a solution that is better than what we have now.

iamcatts.bsky.social @iamcatts.bsky.social · 02/06/2025
This is one of many reasons why nuclear power must be our primary source of energy. It would help so much in reducing pollution.

We're going to learn some tough stuff today about the White House's proposed budget for fiscal year 2026—including what they have in mind for NASA. I'll share what I hear, but remember: CONGRESS decides how much money NASA gets, not the White House. So whatever happens today, the fight continues.

Where did you find that? I can only find that Trump deported less people in his first term than Obama and Biden did. Even if Trump had a 2nd term right away it seems like he would still be under Obama, Bush and Clinton.

If 1% showed up like in South Korea then that would be ~750,000 people to cover the 8 million sq km compared to ~510,000 in people covering a 32,000 sq km land mass. I support protesting but y'all are making it seem easier than it is. Logistics is everything and distance takes a lot more resources
