I tend to chalk it up to a lot of social awkwardness and a level of desperation to make the rare instances of face to face time worthwhile. But I don’t relate any of that intending to dismiss the misogyny inherent in your story, because we all know that’s happening.

I also remember seeing the rabid desperation at DC summits of (mostly the) writers running around to secure the more lucrative books (the artists seemed to approach it slightly more laid back, for better or worse). And it was always so silly, cause nothing ever left those weekends set in stone.

I’ve had more than one artist at those types of gathering introduce themselves (very friendly), tell me how much they like my work, and then proceed to critique it and tell me what I need to do differently to become a “bigger deal”, or something.

Extend the time before it goes to streaming. Make it 180 days. 6 months. If you don't watch it in theaters you won't get to see it for a long time. Studios have devalued their product by letting the consumer know there's no urgency. They're going to see it for "free" later. They've cheapened the business into a buffet and violated basic supply and demand.
